Mary Esther Bray, 73, of Hull, died Oct. 16.
Ms. Bray, known as Mimi, graduated from Hingham High School in 1960 and later attended Chandler School for Women. She worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines and for American Airlines for many years.
Beloved sister of John Bray and his wife, Liza, of London, and Josephine DiGirolamo and her husband, Gino, of Scituate; Ms. Bray also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Gladys A. Twomey, at 81
Hull resident Gladys A. [Keegan] Twomey went home to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 11. She was 81.
Mrs. Twomey lived in Hull for 52 years and was very active in the community and with the church. She was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary every morning. She was a homemaker and caregiver. Mrs. Twomey had the biggest smile and was a gentle, kind, and patient woman. She lived her life honestly and with love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of the late Matthew Twomey; loving mother of Daniel Burke of Keene, NH, Kathleen Brown of Watertown, Kevin Burke of Belmont, Cheryl Burke of North Weymouth, Ann Marie Burke of Hull, and the late Thomas Burke. She was the cherished sister of Barbara Zeogas of Groton and the late Dorothy, Dawn Candice, and James; and also is survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Salli B. Swiman, at 90
Salli B. [Silverman] Swiman died Oct. 5 in Hingham at the age of 90.
She was the loving wife of the late David Swiman and the mother of Alan Swiman of Hingham and Florida, Jayne Zafron of Hull, and the late Donna Sandler of Framingham. Mrs. Swiman also was the loving grandmother of four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She lived in Hull for 60 years, raising her family, and enjoyed reading, knitting, and being with her family. Services have been held.

Obituary: James F. Perchard

James F. Perchard, at 77
James F. “Jim” Perchard, of Hull, originally of East Boston, died on Oct. 10. He was 77.
Mr. Perchard most proudly served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was active in the corps’ scholarship foundation. He earned his master’s degree, cum laude, from Suffolk University. An entrepreneur and mentor to many, Mr. Perchard co-founded Mercury Metal Products in Abington, one of the numerous businesses he ran successfully. He was a voracious reader, world traveler, avid golfer, a keen photographer, and took great pleasure living by the sea among dear friends.
His joy in life was caring for family. Beloved husband of Patricia [Ryan] Perchard; devoted father of Jeannine Sargent and her husband, Brad, of California, and Adrienne Perchard of Braintree. Mr. Perchard was the cherished brother of Michael Perchard and his wife, Jeanette, of Middleboro, the late David Perchard, and the late Stephen Perchard and his wife, Margaret Perchard, of Raynham. Devoted grandfather of Nicholas and Julia Demarquez of Braintree; caring brother in law of Mary Sheila Evans and her husband, Samuel; treasured uncle of Lauren Dell’Olio and her husband, Michael Dell’Olio, Paul and Barry Evans, and Meredith Wiggins; best friend and companion to his dog, Harry.

Jeanne V. Peruzzi, at 93

Jeanne V. [Paolucci] Peruzzi, age 93, of Weymouth, formerly of Hull and Quincy, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Colonial Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Weymouth.
She graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1941, and was a devoted homemaker who was dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Peruzzi was an avid gardener. She enjoyed playing cards, scratch tickets, and trips to Foxwoods and the Raynham dog track with family and friends.
Beloved wife of the late Alfred L. “Rocky” Peruzzi; she was the devoted mother of Bette Ann Mahoney and her husband, John, of Hull and Susan E. Wencek and her husband, Stephen, of Weymouth; loving grandmother of Elyse M. D’Urso and her husband, David, of Weymouth and Brandon A. Wencek and his fiancé, Michael Levesque of Weymouth; cherished great-grandmother of Shawn Michael and Jack Stephen.
Mrs. Peruzzi was one of 10 siblings. Bette Tocco of Braintree, Connie Cappellini and her husband, Alfred “Cappy,” of Weymouth, Salvatore Paolucci and his wife, Lorrayne, of Quincy, survive her; along with a sister-in-law, Roe Paolucci; and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation prior to the service, from 9-10 a.m. Interment will follow, at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.

Priscilla R. Cosgrove, at 83

Priscilla R. [Irvin] Cosgrove, 83, formerly of Hull, died Friday, Sept. 30, at Care One of Newton, where she had been a resident since 2010.
Born and raised in New Bedford, daughter of the late Arthur W. and Gladys E. (Turner) Irvin, she lived in many places in Massachusetts, including Amherst, Hull, Quincy, and Milton.
Mrs. Cosgrove was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Massasoit Nursing School. She worked in geriatrics for more than 20 years. She was a registered nurse at various nursing facilities, including the Deering Nursing Home in Hingham and the Samuel Marcus Nursing Home in Weymouth.
Mrs. Cosgrove was a longtime volunteer at Milton Hospital and was honored with the facility’s highest award. She loved reading, walking the beach, owls, and Lake Sunapee, NH. 
She was the wife of the late Robert Cosgrove. Survivors include two sons, John M. Silva and his wife, Helena, of Methuen, and Paul D. Silva and his wife, Melanie, of Lexington, NC; a daughter, Deborah A. Silva of Secretary, MD; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Cosgrove is also survived by her former husband, John A. Silva of Hull.
Calling hours are Friday, from 4-7 p.m., in the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford. Her funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.

Rita M. [Harney] Corcoran, age 93, of Quincy, Boston, and Hull, died peacefully on Sept. 30.
Mrs. Corcoran worked for 40 years at State Street Bank in Boston before her retirement.

Elizabeth “Betty” A. Clifford, of Hull and Florida, died peacefully Sept. 30 at South Shore Hospital, after a brief period of failing health. She was 88.
Beloved wife of the late Donald D. “Danno” Clifford and cherished life partner and companion of Joseph M. Penta; Mrs. Clifford was the loving mother of Linda M. Boyle and her husband, Lawrence, of Milton, Donna L. Lordan and her husband, Thomas, of New Jersey, Elizabeth S. “Beth” Hickox and her husband, James, of Weymouth, Karen A. Gordon and her husband, Al, of Westborough, David G. Clifford and his wife, Donna, of Florida, Paul B. Clifford and his wife, Debra, of Weymouth, Susan M. Clifford of Hull, and Stephen G. Clifford and his wife, JoEllen, of Georgia. Cherished “Grammy” of 21 grandchildren and “Gi Gi” of five great grandchildren, Mrs. Clifford also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Frank A. Marciano died at his Hull home on Monday, Sept. 26. He was 79.
Mr. Marciano was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed working on homes–painting, wallpapering, woodworking, electrical, roofing, and plumbing. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, piano, drums, oil painting, and was a Boston Red Sox fan. He was a Boy Scout leader, Knights of Columbus third-degree member, CCD teacher, contractor working with his father, the director of building and grounds at Harvard University and Emerson College, real estate agent, and inspector for Tiger Home Inspection. 
Mr. Marciano was the beloved husband of the late Louise [DiVito] Marciano; loving father of Peter Marciano and his wife, Ann, of Hull; grandfather of Angela Roper and husband, Daniel, Michelle Shapiro and her husband, Joel, and Michael Marciano; great-grandfather of Grace Lynn and Daniel Joseph. Mr. Marciano was the loving brother of Elsie Cirrone and her late husband Frank, and Anthony Marciano and wife, Phyllis; and also is survived by many extended family members.

Barbara E. [Harvey] Fisher, 77, died peacefully–surrounded by her loving family–on Friday, Sept. 23.
Mrs. Fisher was born in Boston, then raised and educated in Jamaica Plain. She settled in Hull in 1971. She and her family loved the beach and have many fond memories of summers here. She was known by her family and friends for being kind, gentle, generous, and a selfless mother. She loved her trips to Aruba and her cat, Gizmo.
Her family is thankful for the final moments they spent with her, reminiscing about their life. Mrs. Fisher is survived by her beloved children: Kim McArdle and her fiancé, Scott Williams, of Rutland, Walter Delaney Jr. of Weymouth, John Delaney and his wife, Karen, of Haverhill, Matthew Delaney and his wife, Roberta, of Brockton, and Christopher Delaney and his wife, Sharon, of Hull. She was the loving sister of Mary F. Matthews and the late David W. Harvey; and also is survived by nine cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Obituary: Virginia Capó

Virginia Capó, at 98

Virginia [Jones] Capó, 98, died peacefully on Sept. 25, at the Webster Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Rockland.
Know to family and friends as Ginny, Mrs. Capó was born in the Hingham Ammunition Depot to the late Florence [Fottler] and Joshua Jones. She graduated from Hingham High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Boston University, where she was one of a handful of women students.
She and her husband, Torrey Capó, worked for many years at the South Shore Mirror, where he became well known for his photography and she for her journalism and management skills. Mrs. Capó later directed an organization called CAPTA in Hingham, a clearinghouse for individuals seeking teaching jobs on the South Shore. A reluctant retiree, she ended her career working for the Hull Light Department, where she was employed into her 80s. She also worked as a freelance reporter for this newspaper.
Mrs. Capó’s civic pride was manifested through her enormous contributions of time and energy to the town of Hull, where she served as a member of the school committee, the high school building committee, as chairman of the finance committee, and as a library trustee for the Hull Public Library. She also served on the board of directors of the Hingham Credit Union.
Mrs. Capó was a people person who embraced life and lived it to the fullest. She had the unique gift of seeing and drawing out the best in everyone she met. While she had friends from all walks of life and was loved by all generations, her favorite generation by far was that of her children, Stephen and Pamela Capó. Given a choice, she often said, she would have been a child of the ’60s.
Her children’s friends fondly recall endless high school bashes at the “Capó Cabana” after Hull High basketball and football games. In later years, Mrs. Capó became known for her annual solstice parties, where old and new friends alike would share in her hospitality.
Mrs. Capó always remained positive and cheerful, although she saw her husband and children die early in their lives. She traveled to Europe and Africa with college friend Marge and would often remark that nature was her religion. She marveled at the sky, loved the beauty of the “north country,” and took frequent dips in the bay just steps from her home on E Street.
Wife of the late Torrey L. Capó; mother of the late Stephen Torrey Capó and Pamela Capó. One of four siblings, she was predeceased by her sisters, Karsalie Rhuland, Charlotte Grisdale, and Miriam Landall of Hull. She leaves her granddaughter, Katherine Torrey Capó, nephew Todd Grisdale, niece Jennifer Krieger, and close friend Robert Reid.

Obituary: Dr. Joy Browne

Dr. Joy Browne, at 71

Dr. Joy Browne, a nationally syndicated radio host and former Hull resident, died unexpectedly Aug. 27, in Manhattan. She was 71.
Dr. Browne, who also went by the name Dr. Joy, hosted one of the longest-running talk shows of its kind, in which she offered sage advice for dealing with problems ranging from love-life woes to tricky work interactions to financial foibles. 
Among Dr. Browne's catchphrases was “stupid and cheerful,” her advice on how to behave in the face of invasive questions or negative comments. She explained the phrase in an interview with Radio Ink: “If someone says something negative, instead of responding, 'Oh my God, I can’t believe you said that,' turn it around. Try saying, 'It’s so helpful to have somebody give me feedback.' If you just take the superficial approach to things that may be hurtful or insulting, it makes the other person do the heavy lifting. If they really want to criticize, they are going to have to do more work.”
Dr. Browne was running a private practice in Boston in 1978 and residing on Bluff Road in Hull when a local radio station offered her the chance to host a call-in advice program.
First from Boston station WITS, and later from her longtime radio home on WOR in New York City, Dr. Browne became one of the best-known media psychologists, syndicated on hundreds of stations.
She was also known for her advice books, including "Dating for Dummies" and "The Nine Fantasies That Will Ruin Your Life."
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Browne is survived by one daughter, Patience Browne, of Paris. ∞

Obituary: William F. Marcella

William F. Marcella, at 93

William Francis Marcella, of Middleboro, 93, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Born in Somerville, Mr. Marcella graduated from The College of the Holy Cross and Boston University School of Law, where a plaque is hung in his honor for being the first winner of the moot court competition in 1944. Upon graduation, he started working in his father’s law firm in Boston, and then as an assistant attorney general for the state. He once won a case that he argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. He eventually opened up his own law practice, in Hanover.
Mr. Marcella was an avid tennis player, music lover, talented dancer, and accomplished artist. He was married for 58 years to the late Virginia [Herlihy] Marcella, living and raising their six children in Hull, Hanover, and Cape Cod before retiring to Vero Beach, Florida in 1989.
Mr. Marcella was predeceased by his brother Felix “Sonny” in 1974; his wife, Virginia, in 2006; his son, Bruce, in 1992; and his granddaughter, Ivy, in 2005. He leaves his sons and their wives: William Marcella Jr. [Gayle] of Harwich, Gregory Marcella [Christine] of Oak Bluffs, Kurt Marcella [Pam] of Scituate, Douglas Marcella [Kym], of Carver; his daughter, Kim Marcella, of Yarmouthport; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. For the last eight years, Jacqueline Trifari, of New Jersey, has been a close and loving companion. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Mary N. Fazio, at 94

Mary N. [Pellegrino] Fazio, of Quincy and Hull, died Sept. 12. She was 94.
Mrs. Fazio loved meeting new people. She never met a stranger because everyone she met she made a part of her circle. She was the owner and manager of The Fazio House on the beach in Hull and taught adults to sew in night-school programs. Mrs. Fazio was a woman with golden hands. She could and would sew just about everything, from bridal gowns to draperies. Her main passion in life was her family, and her friends, and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Mrs. Fazio will be remembered for her positive and uplifting personality, who only saw the good in people. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Fazio; loving mother of John Fazio and his wife, Lisa, of Florida, and Francine Townsend and her husband, Paul, of Hull. The caring sister of Norma Alibrandi of Quincy and the late Vera Macero; devoted Nonna of Frank and John Townsend, Dena, Athena and Emma Fazio, and her four great grandchildren: Eleanor, Mary, Frank, and Elena; Mrs. Fazio also is survived by many other extended family members and cherished friends.

Horace E. Laprade, of Hull, formerly of Easthampton, died Sept. 6. He was 90.
Mr. Laprade was a proud Air Force veteran who served in World War II and an accomplished attorney and financial advisor. 
For 67 years he was the beloved husband of Teresa Laprade. He leaves his children: Richard A. Laprade of North Carolina, Terry L. Viggers and her husband, John, of Arizona, James F. Laprade and his partner, Tom Lutzy, of Hull, Bill A. Laprade of Colorado, John A. Laprade and his wife, Chase Angier, of New York, and Ann E. Cortes and her husband, Carlos, of Florida. The loving brother of Ruth Fleury and her husband, Frank, of Easthampton, and Dolores Block and her husband, Ted, of Ohio; grandfather of cherished grandsons, Sergio A. Laprade, Alexander J. Laprade, and Hudson D. Laprade; Mr. Laprade also leaves a great grandson, Oliver L. Laprade; many dear nieces and nephews; his family’s beloved friend, Amy Whitcomb Slemmer; and loving neighbors Charlotte and Martin Gruber and Susan and Rabih Habchy.

Obituary: Earl J. Saley Jr.

Earl J. Saley Jr., at 60

Former Hull resident Earl “Jay” Saley Jr. lost his battle with cancer on Sept. 4. He was 60 and died, surrounded by loved ones, at Leesburg Hospital in Florida.

Mr. Saley enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, playing as a local musician with many bands, and spending time with his family and friends. 

He was born in Weymouth to the late Earl and Norma [MacDonald] Saley. For 30 years, he was the beloved husband of Carole [Anagnoston] Saley. He is survived by his children, Melissa Padula and her husband, Gary, of Winter Springs, FL, Todd Perry and his partner, Julie Levangie, of Rockland, Thomas Perry and his partner, Lisa Buccieri, of Taunton, and Earl Saley III of Seattle. Mr. Saley also leaves his adored grandchildren: Ashlyn, Jason, Robert, and Mason; a brother, Edwin “Butch” Saley, of New Hampshire; a sister, Earlene Walker, of East Weymouth; nephews Stephen and Michael Lincoln; niece Tina [Lincoln] McCall; and many extended family members and friends.

Obituary: Lewis Scotton

Lewis Scotton, at 71

  Lewis Scotton of Hull, formerly of Hingham, died Aug. 26, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 71.
  Mr. Scotton loved life, had many interests, and never lost his sense of adventure. He grew up in Dover, Delaware, where he graduated from high school. Mr. Scotton earned a BS degree from Syracuse University and an MS in biology from the University of Delaware. He was proud to be a Marine and served from 1967 to 1974. 
  He was a marine biologist and worked at Boston Edison for most of his career. As a member of The Explorers Club, he participated in scientific expeditions in Ecuador, Peru, Baffin Island, Ellesmere Island, and Mt Nun in India. He loved sports such as running, rowing, mountain climbing, and barefoot waterskiing.
  He was bold and courageous in his approach to life’s opportunities and challenges. That, combined with his kindness, consideration, and love for all the people in life, set him apart.
  He leaves his wife, Elaine Rooney Scotton, of Hull; and a brother and sister in law, Bill and Les Scotton, of Maryland. Mr. Scotton was the loving father of Tara Rummel and “Pop-Pop” of Zoe Rummel, of Charlotte, NC. He also is survived by a nephew and two nieces.

Ann Grimshaw, at 75

  Ann Grimshaw, a former Hull resident, died Aug. 26 at Carney Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness. She was 75.
  Ms. Grimshaw grew up in Quincy and was graduated from North Quincy High School.  She earned her bachelor’s degree at Emmanuel College.  She worked for the state as a director for social services for many years and then had a long career in real estate, working for Century 21 Homes By Heritage and Jack Conway Co.
  Ms. Grimshaw leaves her loving brother, Tom Grimshaw, and his wife, Barbara, of Hull; her sister, Kathy Cheverie, and her husband, Roy, of Weymouth; six nieces and nephews; and 10 grandnieces and -nephews.
  Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Hingham. Burial will be at a later date.

Paul Bassinor, at 103

  Paul Bassinor, of Newton and Hull, died June 9. He was 103 and had been a resident of Hull since 1952.
  Mr. Bassinor loved dogs and rare books.
  The beloved husband of Anne E. Maxted-Bassinor; he was the devoted father of Alan N. Tubman and his wife, Sue; the grandfather of Norman Tubman and Natalie Dupree; and great-grandfather of Sarah Esther Dupree and Melody Bess Dupree. Mr. Bassinor also was the loving brother of the late Lea Bassinor-Rosenfelt.

Louis Barletto, Jr., at 68

  Louis Barletto, Jr. died Aug. 26, at age 68.
  He was an electrician for many years before he retired. He was an avid Boston sports fan, especially of Red Sox baseball, and he was a longtime Little League coach in Hull.
  Mr. Barletto adored his family, especially his grandchildren.
  Beloved husband of Linda [Quaglia] Barletto and the late Barbara Barletto; he was the devoted father of Bree Barletto and her partner, Stephen Sbardella, of Boston, Jim Barletto and his wife, Cristina, of Kingston, Doug Fairbanks of Norwell, Krissie DuBeau and her husband, John, of Mansfield, and the late Michael Barletto. Mr. Barletto was the loving brother of Mary Erwin and her husband, Edward, of Boston; the cherished “Papa” of Darian, Vail, Luke, Brooke, Jace, Ava, and James Louis; and the loving uncle of Hope, David, and Caitlin.
