Obituary: Lewis Scotton
/Lewis Scotton, at 71
Lewis Scotton of Hull, formerly of Hingham, died Aug. 26, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 71.
Mr. Scotton loved life, had many interests, and never lost his sense of adventure. He grew up in Dover, Delaware, where he graduated from high school. Mr. Scotton earned a BS degree from Syracuse University and an MS in biology from the University of Delaware. He was proud to be a Marine and served from 1967 to 1974.
He was a marine biologist and worked at Boston Edison for most of his career. As a member of The Explorers Club, he participated in scientific expeditions in Ecuador, Peru, Baffin Island, Ellesmere Island, and Mt Nun in India. He loved sports such as running, rowing, mountain climbing, and barefoot waterskiing.
He was bold and courageous in his approach to life’s opportunities and challenges. That, combined with his kindness, consideration, and love for all the people in life, set him apart.
He leaves his wife, Elaine Rooney Scotton, of Hull; and a brother and sister in law, Bill and Les Scotton, of Maryland. Mr. Scotton was the loving father of Tara Rummel and “Pop-Pop” of Zoe Rummel, of Charlotte, NC. He also is survived by a nephew and two nieces.
A Celebration of Life Service was held this morning [Thursday] at Congregation Sha’aray Shalom in Hingham. Memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101A First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
