Obituary: Marlene T. Flattich

Marlene T. Flattich, 82

Marlene T. (McLaughlin) Flattich, of Hull, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Jan. 23.  She was 82.

Marlene was born in Boston to Raymond O. and Mary E. (Wirth) McLaughlin and raised in South Boston. After graduating from South Boston High School, she worked in book preparation at the Boston Public Library. It was at the library that she met her husband, Philip W. Flattich, who was working there as a messenger at the time. They settled in South Boston and then moved to Hull where they raised a family of six children and spent the remainder of their years together.

Marlene’s kindness, generosity, strength, and faith were unwavering. She loved her family and would host a weekly Sunday dinner to bring everyone together. She had a keen interest in genealogy and was known as the family historian. In her spare time, she would travel to town halls and public libraries to track down anything she could find to piece together her family history. She also enjoyed dancing and knitting, attending her TOPS meetings, and was known to be very crafty.

Beloved wife of 62 years to Philip W. Flattich, of Hull, she was the devoted mother of Ann Marie Flattich, of Florida; Marlene Earl and her husband, Gerald, of Hull; Sharon Nickerson and her husband, Thomas, of Weymouth; Pamela Flattich, of Hull; Cynthia Brown and her husband, Roger, of Hull; and Gregory Flattich and his wife, Quenna Lalonde, of Cambridge. She was the loving sister of Thomas McLaughlin and his wife, Barbara, of Arizona. She also had 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond McLaughin Jr. and his wife, Diane, and William McLaughlin and his wife, Elizabeth; and brother-in-law Robert Flattich and sister-in-law Veronica Tibets and her husband, Harold.
