Obituary: Charles Bernard Gold

Charles Bernard Gold, 74
Charles Bernard Gold, of Marco Island, Fla., formerly of Hull, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on May 8. He was 74.
Born in Boston on Feb. 25, 1947, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eleanor (Casey) Gold. Charles was raised in Hull and attended local schools. He graduated high school with the class of 1965.
His career was with Blue Cross Blue Shield as a data center manager. He enjoyed his work and the relationships he built throughout the years.
Charlie had many passions, his family being number one. Always present, never missing his son’s hockey games or daughter’s activities, he was the perfect Dad. A close second was his love for the New England Patriots. Watching all the Patriots’ Super Bowls with his family by his side brought him great joy.
He enjoyed many sports and was a good athlete. Whether it was softball, tennis, pickle ball, racquetball, he enjoyed them all.
He also enjoyed history and traveled with his wife to Civil War sites throughout the country. One of his favorite trips was traveling to Europe aboard the HMS Queen Mary.
Charlie made friends everywhere he went. Whether it was his childhood friends, friends from work, or friends made from his children’s activities, his big heart and great sense of humor made him an easy person to love.
Music was always important to Charlie. He spent several summers working at Meadowbrook in Gilford, N.H., an outdoor concert venue where he worked with his daughter and made many friends. One of his fondest memories was working as the private driver for musician Carlos Santana.
Charlie was dealt many health challenges over the years, but he soldiered on and refused to let them get the best of him. His strength and courage were as big as his heart.
Charles was the beloved husband of Maureen E. (Cooper) Gold. The two married on Oct. 9, 1965, in Boston, and together they shared 56 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Emma M. Womack and her spouse, Sam, of New Hampshire, and Darrin C. Gold and his partner, Alice Liao, of Boston. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Sandra Munn and Linda Foley. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
