Obituary: Nancy McLaughlin

Nancy McLaughlin, 68
Nancy McLaughlin was called home by the angels on Sept. 30 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 68.
She was born to Anthony and Nancy (Benotti) Fazio of Braintree on Sept. 10, 1952, and graduated from Braintree High School in 1970. After high school, she worked for Prudential Insurance in Boston.
She also graduated from Mansfield Beauty Academy and spent many years as a hairdresser and colorist for Phillip DePalma Hair Salon in Medfield.
In 1980, she met her husband, Jerry McLaughlin, on a blind date; he was an Army recruiter in Boston. They were married in1981. After living in Abington for 10 years, they moved to Hull in 1993 to be closer to the ocean and their many friends in the town.
In 1994, they were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Brynn. Nancy became a stay-at- home mother until, in 2010, she went back to school and received an associate degree in English at Quincy College.
She was very active in the Hull Girl Scouts and became a troop leader and the Girl Scouts’ town coordinator for many years.
Nancy, like her mother, had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was a lead singer in a band for many years, and she could be heard singing as she cooked and passersby walked past the house on a summer day. She loved making homemade pasta from scratch. She also loved to sew and was well known for her handmade holiday flags that flew from her front porch.
She leaves her husband of 40 years, Jerry, and her daughter, Brynn McLaughlin, of Hull. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Fazio, and wife, Anne, of Bethel, Vt.; another brother, Philip Fazio, preceded her in death.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday evening at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham. Burial was to be private.
Donations in memory of Nancy can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
