Obituary: Paul Morris Goldman
/Paul Morris Goldman, 90
Paul Morris Goldman, of Hull and formerly of Newton, died peacefully surrounded by family on March 28. He was 90.
Paul was born in Boston on Jan. 2, 1931, to the late Harry and Mitzi (Field) Goldman. He graduated from Syracuse University and went on to earn a master’s degree in international relations from Boston University.
Paul enjoyed a long career in the leather industry, traveling all over the world and relying on his talent in languages and his knowledge, integrity, and warmth to establish decades-long business partnerships. He founded his own company, PHB International, in 1963, and he worked there well past his 90th birthday. To his great pride, his son, Barry, joined the business in 1986 and became his lifelong business partner.
Paul and his wife, Joanne, were married on June 20, 1954. Together they established their beautiful family in Newton and Hull, where they lived for the past 66 years. Paul’s happiest days were spent reveling in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on Nantasket Beach. He spent years pulling lobster traps over the side of his beloved SeaCraft 23, “Slap Shot.”
There was a seat at his table for everyone, and he loved nothing more than endless lobster, bagels, and Chinese food feasts with this family. He counted down the days until his favorite holiday of all, Thanksgiving. He was often found in a sunny spot on his porch doing The New York Times crossword puzzle, binoculars at hand to keep an eye on the striped bass.
He was an avid Boston sports fan, particularly of the Red Sox, though he maintained that Terry Francona was a “bum.” Between enjoying his favorite classic movies and telling jokes that made your belly ache from laughter, he serenaded family and friends at the piano.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne R. (Kushner) Goldman, of Hull. He was the devoted father of Julie R. Reedy, of Newton; Bonnie A. Clancy and her husband, Steven, of Hull; Barry R. Goldman, of Hull; Charles A. Goldman and his wife, Melissa, of Hingham; and the late Dr. Harold B. Goldman and his surviving wife, Mary Canning, of Orange. He was the devoted grandfather of Joshua Goldman, Caneen Canning, Samuel Goldman, Nicole Reedy, Benjamin Reedy, Christopher Reedy, Jason Clancy, Julia Clancy, Emily Clancy, Liam Clancy, Julia Goldman, Matthew Goldman, Lily Goldman, Maxwell Goldman, Jacob Goldman, and Paul Goldman. He was the loving great-grandfather of Tony, Hattie, Jordan, Ruby, Daisy, Daphne, and Pete. He was the dear brother of David Goldman and his wife, Judi, of Dedham; and the late Ralph Goldman and his surviving wife, Joan, of Dedham. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Paul’s funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 31, at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham and was live-streamed. To view the live stream, return to Paul’s obituary page on www.Keohane.com.
