Obituary: James ‘Jay’ Power

James ‘Jay’ Power, 56

We are sad to announce the passing of James Cradock Power, age 56, of Weymouth.

After a recent decline in his health, Mr. Power died peacefully on Aug. 20, 2022 at South Shore Hospital, surrounded by his loving sisters and brothers.

Born in Boston, he spent much of his life in Hull and was a proud resident of Gunrock Beach. With a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, he worked at a number of jobs, including sales, software developer, and painter. The youngest of the seven Power children, he loved playing basketball and golf, reading books of all genres, watching movies, and cooking. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his big family and friends. With a kind heart and a quick smile, Mr. Power was a gentle, sweet, and quiet giant. He was a devoted son, a dedicated brother, a dear and beloved uncle, and a loyal friend.

Mr. Power is survived by his siblings and their partners: Patricia and Neil Donovan of Maine, John and Mary Power of New Hampshire, Christine and Edward Straughn, Michael & Colleen Power, Suzanne Power, and Brian and Joan Power. He also is survived by his 21 nieces and nephews, 20 grand-nieces and nephews, and his large extended family and friends. Mr. Power was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John “Beaver” Power.

His love and spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all of us who loved him.

Visiting hours will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield, on Thursday, Aug. 25, and the funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. in St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean St., Marshfield.
