Obituary: Jonathan F. Peters

Jonathan F. Peters, at 50
Surrounded by loving family, Jonathan Frederick Peters of Hull died June 4 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was 50.
He grew up in Bridgewater, graduated from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School, and attended Colby College and Bridgewater State University. However, his favorite place was Nantasket Beach, where he and his wife, Pamela Pattavina, lived for 18 years. 
Mr. Peters spent his career in health care, forming close friendships along the way. People who had the chance to know him would describe him as empathetic, creative, thoughtful, and always thinking of others. Mr. Peters was a good gift-giver and the kind of guy you would call if you got a flat tire at 2 a.m. and needed a spare. He’d shop-vac your flash-flooded basement while you were out of town and never ask for a thank you. He never forgot the vegetarians at Thanksgiving. He grew river irises and beautiful peonies and had just started a koi pond; he loved gardening. 
In addition to his wife, Pamela J. Pattavina, of Hull, Mr. Peters leaves his children: Sydney Peters, Joshua Peters, Danielle Pattavina, Amanda Pattavina, Neela Ryan, John Pattavina, Oliver Pattavina, and Hunter Pattavina. He was the grandfather of Olive Frederick Ryan and Isabel Pattavina Habeeb. He is also survived by sisters, Christine Schultz and Rebecca LaGrasta, and a brother, Hal Peters. 
His funeral service was held Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bridgewater, with burial at Mount Prospect Cemetery. Obituary: Margaret L. Rand

Margaret L. Rand, at 66
Margaret L. (Mitchell) Rand died June 8, at age 66, after a year-long, courageous battle with brain cancer. 
Proudly born and raised in Hull Village, the woman everyone knew as Peggy loved this small beach community. While raising her three children, she held many roles within the community, including as a member of the Hull Parent Teacher Organization, Hull Boosters Club, and St. Ann’s Parish, volunteering at school book fairs, and running the snack shack for the Hull Little League, just to name a few. 
For more than 25 years, she provided in-home day care for countless numbers of Hull families. She loved each of those children as her own and was proud to attend their graduations and weddings and to meet their children in recent years. Mrs.  Rand also owned Cakes By Peggy and worked at Schooner’s and South Shore Hospital. In her last few years she enjoyed working at The Inn at Scituate Harbor. 
Mrs. Rand enjoyed gardening, entertaining, sewing, baking, traveling, watching beautiful Hull sunsets, being on the beach with her friends, and rooting for her beloved Boston teams. Most of all, she enjoy spending time with her pride and joy, her grandchildren. Her warm, kind, gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The beloved wife of George T. Rand Jr. for 44 years and treasured daughter of William G. Mitchell of Hull and the late Irene (Dunphy) Mitchell, she was the cherished mother of Julie Foster and her husband, Michael, and Kathryn Rand, all of Hull, and Christopher Rand of Hanover. She was the loving Mimi of Joseph Bradley and Olivia, Isla, and Finley Rand; she also was the dear sister of Betty Ann Doherty and her husband, Wayne, of Whitman; Kathryn Mitchell, of Scituate; Jack Mitchell and his wife, Leigh, of Scituate; and Marie Mitchell, of Norwell. Mrs. Rand is also survived by many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. 
Her funeral Mass at St. Ann’s Church is scheduled for this morning – Thursday, June 14 – at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Hull Village Cemetery.

Obituary: Thomas F. Wall Jr.

Thomas F. Wall Jr., at 72
Thomas F. Wall Jr., of Hull, died June 6, after a long illness. He was 72.
An Air Force veteran, he later served as a constable for the city of Boston and then worked in the Street Lighting Division of the Boston Public Works Department.  
Mr. Wall was supreme director of Region 1 for the Order of Alhambra, which focuses on charity work for disabled children, and happily served as a loyal member. He also was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
After he retired, Mr. Wall enjoyed his days as a greeter at daily Mass at the Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham. 
He had a lifelong love of animals, which he shared with his daughter, bringing her to various petting farms and to see the goats at the abbey. In his younger days, he would bring home various stray dogs, cats, and even squirrels.
Mr. Wall loved to shop and drive all over the country. He would give the shirt off his back to any family member or friend. He was very generous with his family, friends, and those he didn’t even know. He will be missed by many and was loved by all.
Mr. Wall is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan; and his daughter, Deborah, and son-in-law, Mark J. Lucreziano, of Hull. He is also survived by his uncle, George Yered, of Needham; his cousin, Joseph Geary, of Weymouth; many extended family members and friends; and his precious cats: Milo, Miss Muffin, and Tom Kitten.
Visiting hours will be held at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, on Friday, June 15, from 5-8 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Glastonbury Abbey, 16 Hull St., Hingham, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Memorial service set for Martha Rosenberg
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Hull Village Cemetery for Martha Rosenberg, who died May 15 in Wickliffe, Ohio, at age 70.
Ms. Rosenberg was born in Boston and lived in Hull until 2015, when she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Ohio. Her obituary was published in The Hull Times on May 17.

Garry J. King of Dorchester, formerly of Hull, died Friday, June 1, at the age of 54. 
He was the beloved son of the late John D. and Elva K. (Hazelton) King; brother of John J. “Jay” King of Hull and Patricia Estep of Melrose; uncle of Christina Arevalo and John D. King, both of Hull, and James King of Norwood.

Obituary: Patricia J. Driscoll

Patricia J. Driscoll, at 83
Patricia Jessie (Bridgham) Driscoll), 83, a longtime Hull resident who most recently lived in Utah, died May 17.
Born in Brookline, she graduated with a business degree from the University of Massachusetts and then, later in her life, continued her studies at UMass and earned a B.A. 
Mrs. Driscoll lived a life full of accomplishments. She had a passion for the arts and literature. She loved photography and gardening, especially photographing her roses.
The daughter of the late Charles Burr Bridgham and Jean Smith Bridgham, she is survived by her husband, Peter F. Driscoll; and five children: Karen Brooks, Patricia Melgaard, George Kane, Robert Kane, and Charles Kane. She also leaves her stepchildren: Joanne Austin, Peter Driscoll, and James Rust; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 
With a heavy heart her family says goodbye to a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; she will be missed by many. 
The memorial service for East Coast family and friends will be held in Maine. The place and time will be announced later.

Katlyn “Katie” E. Clifford, age 32, a longtime resident of Hull, died suddenly on Monday, April 30. Ms. Clifford was born in Boston and was raised in Hull. She was a 2004 graduate of Hull High School.
Ms. Clifford had lived in California for the past year. She was employed as a waitress in the restaurant industry and loved music and enjoyed attending music festivals. 
Beloved daughter of Susan M. Clifford of Quincy and the late William Sutherland, Ms. Clifford is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 
Funeral services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy, on Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial visitation prior to the service will be from 2-4 p.m.

Obituary: Ann Louise Burnaby

Ann Louise Burnaby, at 69
Attended by her husband and two sons, Ann Louise (McAllister) Burnaby died on May 19 due to pneumonia that was complicated by metastatic breast cancer. She was 69.
Mrs. Burnaby was born in Dedham to Mary and George McAllister. She attended Dedham High School and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1970. Ann and her husband, Laurie, met at the college and were married on July 8, 1973. They resided in Millis, where their sons were born, for 15 years. 
After living in Hingham for 21 years, they retired to Hull, where Mrs. Burnaby loved the ocean, the beach, her wonderful new neighbors, and still being close by her dear friends in Hingham. 
Mrs. Burnaby worked in the Curry College Development Office for several years before finding an outlet for her creativity in furniture sales at Macy’s in Braintree and Hanover. She was an avid gardener and a talented artist and crafter. She created beautiful gardenscapes and especially enjoyed painting, egg decorating, and knitting. She loved travel and was always seeking new experiences. 
Mrs. Burnaby is survived by her husband, Laurie; sons Aaron Burnaby, of Dedham, and Trevor Burnaby and his fiancée,  Amanda Cheney, of Hanover; and sisters-in-law Priscilla and Betsy Burnaby of Marblehead. 
Mrs. Burnaby was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St., Hingham. A celebration of her life will be held at the church on Saturday, June 2, at 3 p.m., followed by a reception in Hale Fellowship Hall (lower level of the church). There will be a continued celebration of her life at the home of her son Trevor (directions at the reception).

Obituary: Martha Rosenberg

Martha Rosenberg, at 70
Martha Rosenberg died peacefully May 15 in Wickliffe, OH. She was 70.
Ms. Rosenberg was born in Boston, and lived in Hull until 2015, when she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Ohio. 
She attended the University of Pittsburgh/Johnstown, and subsequently worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for many years.
Ms. Rosenberg was beloved by all her Hull friends and neighbors. She was known for her quick wit, generous nature, and eagerness to help others. Living just three houses from the ocean, she spent many hours basking in the sun. When not at the beach, she happily tended a diverse vegetable garden in her yard. 
Ms. Rosenberg was known for her ability to sing along in perfect tune with virtually every rock & roll song of the 1960s through the ’90s. She was a valued member of various sports teams in town, where she was a furious and competitive softball and volleyball player. 
Beloved sister of Martin Rosenberg of Concord, OH; loving aunt of Michelle Messmer and grand aunt of Max and Lily Messmer, all of San Diego, CA; she also leaves her cousins, Elaine Eisenhauer of Florida, David Cerul of Sudbury, and Maurice Cerul of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lillian Rosenberg of Hull and Delray Beach; a brother, Stephen Rosenberg of Los Angeles; and her partner, Anna E. King.

Obituary: Donald F. Desmond

Donald F. Desmond, at 76
Donald F. Desmond, a lifelong resident of Hull, died at home early Sunday morning, May 13. He was 76.
Born in South Weymouth, Mr. Desmond was a 1960 graduate of Hull High School and went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard. He worked as a lineman for 42 years for the New England Telephone Company, which became Verizon. He retired several years ago. 
Mr. Desmond enjoyed taking care of his and his neighbors’ yards, home improvements, and especially going to the beach with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. 
Beloved husband of 55 years of Gail (Trapp), he was the devoted father of Denise Marshall and her husband, Timothy; Nancy Fleck and her husband, Richard; and Donald Desmond and his wife, Jennifer, all of Hull. 
He was the loving grandfather of Tim and Haley Marshall, Ashley and Richie Fleck, and Grayson and Avery Desmond. Mr. Desmond also is survived by his sister, Barbara Currul, of Georgia, and by a niece and two nephews.

James E. Trubia, at 61
James E. “Tank” Trubia died, after a period of declining health, on Friday, May 4. He died at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 61.
Mr. Trubia was born and raised in Hull. He graduated from Hull High School in 1974 and furthered his education at Salem State College, earning his degree in 1979. He worked as a supervisor for the state Department of Transitional Assistance for 33 years, retiring in 2015. 
Mr. Trubia loved coaching baseball, and he was great at it. He was also an avid Boston sports fan. A lover of Chinese food, especially steak wor bar from the former Sar Ho’s Restaurant in Hull, he will be remembered as a happy-go- lucky man with a great sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, a cherished father, a loving son and brother, and a great friend who stayed strong to the very end. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. 
He was the beloved and devoted husband of Jo-Anne (Tarbox) Trubia, his wife of 41 years. He was the loving son of Elizabeth (Anderson) Trubia and the late Salvatore Trubia; the cherished father of James P. Trubia, of Springfield; and the brother of Michael Trubia and his wife, Eileen, of Connecticut, Lawrence Trubia and his wife, Margaret, of Hull, and the late John R. Trubia. 
Mr. Trubia was the brother-in-law of Mari-Anne Sullivan and the late Thomas Sullivan, of Hull, and Paul Tarbox and his wife, Debbie, of Florida; and the nephew of Grace Anderson, of Hull. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. 
Funeral services were held Wednesday. Mr. Trubia was laid to rest at Hull Village Cemetery.

Ann P. (Murray) McSweeney, of Watertown, died April 22. She was 77. 
Mrs. McSweeney was a retired Hull Public Schools teacher. 
She was the beloved wife of John “Jack” McSweeney; dear sister of the late Kathleen Murray and Elizabeth Owens; loving aunt of Tara Lepro and John Owens; and great-aunt of Ava and Cavan Lepro.

Obituary: Sharon M. McNamee

Sharon M. McNamee, at 53
Sharon M. McNamee, 53, of Hull, died April 24, after a courageous battle with cancer. 
Ms. McNamee lived her life with compassion, energy, and adventure. She enjoyed the distinct honor of having been a key member of her “other” family, the Hull High Marching Pirates. This well-known and respected group of her fellow students, teachers, parents, and supporters played a major role in her life, right up to her last days. 
For a number of years, Ms. McNamee was able to spread her wings and share her unforgettable charm and personality all over the states of Florida and New York. She returned to her family and her early childhood friends when she came home to Hull in the fall of 2016. 
Ms. McNamee was a very deep and complex woman and was very passionate about her many interests. She had a profound interest in and appreciation for the arts. She worked in the arts while in Florida and New York, and her work allowed her to rub elbows with many celebrities over the years. She took pleasure in reading, as well as in what was perhaps her true passion, writing. She spent a significant amount of time writing about her life experiences and corresponding with close friends and family. 
Ms. McNamee also enjoyed the outdoors, including nature walks, gardening, and walks along Nantasket Beach. She enjoyed following her favorite Boston sports teams, including the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. She had a deep love for animals, including her childhood German shepherd Heidi, her cat Seth, and her most recent cat Phoebe. She was also very charitable and cared deeply for the disadvantaged. Her kindness and compassion, her enduring love for her family and friends, and her infectious smile and sweet voice will be cherished memories for all who knew her.
She was comforted and surrounded by her many friends and family members during her final days. She was truly adored. 
Ms. McNamee was predeceased by her mother, Rita D. (Shields) McNamee. She is survived by her father, Robert G. McNamee; her brothers Robert F., Thomas R., William E., Richard F., and Francis C. McNamee; and her sisters Keri A. McNamee and Dyanne M. Small, in addition to their spouses and significant others. Ms. McNamee is also survived by many extended family members and countless beloved friends. 
A graveside tribute will take place at the Hull Village Cemetery on Sunday, May 20, at 11 a.m. All family and friends are respectfully invited.

Obituary: Rev. Edwin D. Condon Jr.

Rev. Edwin D. Condon Jr., at 82
The Rev. Edwin D. Condon Jr. of Hingham, formerly of Dorchester, died May 1. He was the much-loved weekend associate at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Hull, where he was known to parishioners as Father Ed.
Ordained a priest on Feb. 2, 1961, the Rev. Condon had assignments to St. Joseph’s Parish in East Pepperell, St. Mary’s Parish in Lynn, and St. Catherine’s Parish in Somerville. He served on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1975 until 1999. After his military service, he served as pastor at St. Denis, Westwood and then as interim regional vicar for the South Region. Upon retirement, he was named vicar for pastoral care of clergy. 
Father Ed lived at Linden Ponds in Hingham and helped out at a number of South Shore parishes in addition to St. Mary in Hull. He was a great speaker and parishioners enjoyed his homilies, as Catholic sermons are known. His enthusiasm and positivity were infectious, which is part of the reason this upbeat priest was sought for chaplain duty on cruise ships once or twice a year. 
Beloved son of the late Edwin D. and Eleanor (Connelly) Condon, late of Dorchester; loving brother of Dr. Robert M. Condon and his wife, Joan, of Weymouth; he also leaves many extended family members including a beloved cousin and godchild, Patricia M. Condon of Braintree.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Church, 1057 Main St., Hingham, on Friday, May 4 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m. in the Resurrection Church. Interment, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury, will be private.

Obituary: Joan P. Beamon

Joan P. Beamon, at 85
Joan P. (Flemming) Beamon, age 85, of Cohasset and Hull, died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, on April 24. 
Known as Pat, Mrs. Beamon was a very social and loving person who loved to plan events. But most of all, friends and family were her focus. She was a homemaker and costume designer. She attended St. Anthony Church in Cohasset and St. Ann’s in Hull.
Mrs. Beamon was the loving wife of the late Donald E. Beamon and the beloved mother of Carolyn Bonnar and her husband, Christopher, of Hull; Donna McManus, of Cohasset; and Nancy Figueiredo and her husband, JP, of Cohasset. She was the adoring grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of five. She was the sister of Donald Flemming and Claire Dunn, both of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Obituary: Barbara A. Barry

Barbara A. Barry, at 85
Barbara A. (Benway) Barry, 85, died unexpectedly March 20, in Naples, Fla. Born in Somerville, she enjoyed life at Gunrock Beach in Hull, in Bedford, and in Naples.
Mrs. Barry was a fun-loving person, always ready to celebrate and plan a family party. Beyond her family, she loved trips to Disney, Red Sox, red hats, themed dinners, SHS reunions, group photos, shopping, Bananagrams, traveling, and – although she loved to cook –  making reservations.
Beloved wife for 61 years of Joseph M. Barry, together they raised seven children. Mrs. Barry was predeceased by her husband; a son, Paul Barry; and a brother, Robert Benway. She leaves her children: Maureen Malley, of Hull; Michael and Irene Barry, of Cohasset; Susan and Danny Breviglia, of Canton; Steven Barry, of Marshfield; Jim and Sandy Barry, of Hanson; and Joanne Barry of Hull. She was the proud grandmother of 15 cherished grandchildren, and their spouses, and eight adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Edna O’Brien, Arlene Feeley, and Joan Bretta; a sister-in-law, Madelyn Barry; as well as many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, including her best friend, Cathy Powers.

Obituary: Edward McDevitt

Edward McDevitt, at 80
Edward McDevitt died April 20 at age 80. 
Mr. McDevitt grew up in Hull and, as a young boy, he was a mascot on the steamboat Allerton, which fueled his love for the sea. He joined the Coast Guard and later became the caretaker for the then privately owned Peddocks Island, where he and his now late wife, Judy, raised four children. 
Mr. McDevitt then became the town’s harbormaster and a police officer. His love of the sea resulted in countless rescues. He was the program manager and company commander of the Massachusetts Harbormaster Academy at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a program he founded, and a past president of the Massachusetts Harbormasters Association.   
Mr. McDevitt was a lifelong member of the Nantasket Beach Salt Water Club. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his camper and spending time with his children: Edward, Michael, Christine, and Judith.

Christine Dugas, at 44
Christine Dugas, of Hull, died April 21. She was 44.
Ms. Dugas grew up in North Weymouth, later moving to Hull and attending Hull High School. She loved to read and use the computer. 
She was the loving daughter of Mary (McIntyre) Ford, of Hull, and the late Richard Dugas and Joseph Ford; sister of Kerrie Anne Bonn and her husband, Benjamin, of Townsend; the aunt of Owen Bonn and the niece of Robert McIntyre, of Whitman, and John McIntyre, of Weymouth.

Obituary: Hugh Saussy Jr.

Hugh Saussy Jr., at 90
Hugh Saussy Jr., a former Hull resident, died April 8 at the age of 90. 
Mr. Saussy had lived in Dania Beach, Fla., for the past 10 years. He was a former Episcopal priest at Holy Innocents’ Church in Atlanta, Ga., where he founded the Holy Innocents’ School. He was active in the civil rights movement and the Head Start program at the federal Office of Economic Opportunity. He joined the Federal Energy Administration in 1973 during the oil embargo and continued his public service career as Northeast regional director of the Department of Energy until his retirement in 2005. 
During his career, he was instrumental in developing and implementing many clean-energy initiatives, including the installation of one of the first wind turbines in Massachusetts in the town of Hull, his home for 34 years. He loved living in Hull and cherished the friendships he made here. He enjoyed taking the commuter boat and joining other commuters at Jo’s Nautical Bar. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man who was a great listener and an advocate for those in need. 
Mr. Saussy is survived by his former wife and dear friend, Maureen Saussy-Kennedy, and his children, Stephen Saussy and his wife, Pam; Lynn Saussy; Carol Saussy; and Lucy Saussy-Hannon and her husband, Tim. He also leaves his grandchildren, Steve Saussy, Jared Saussy, Madeline Edwards, and Luke Hannon; his great-granddaughter, Clara Saussy; and his brother, Charles R. Saussy and his children.  A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed.
