Obituary: Jose Costa

Jose Costa, at 69

Jose Costa passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by warmth and love at his home in Hull following a long illness.

Mr. Costa was born on December 6, 1955 in the Azores. He was 69 years old.

His journey began when he immigrated with his family as a young child to Fall River – a place where he grew roots and forged lifelong friendships. Known as a kindhearted and generous man, Mr. Costa dedicated much of his life to his work as a contractor, proudly building homes and friendships alike. His easygoing nature, contagious laugh, and willingness to lend a helping hand left lasting impressions on everyone he met. Above all, Mr. Costa cherished moments on the water, finding peace and joy in sailing – an activity that brought him immense happiness throughout his life. Whether he was navigating calm waters or riding the waves, he was always at ease near the sea.

Mr. Costa is lovingly remembered by his son, Matthew Costa of New Bedford; his daughter, Claire Costa Amaral and son-in-law Tom Amaral, of San Jose, California. He also leaves behind his devoted girlfriend, Vivian Sullivan, whose love and companionship greatly enriched his life, especially during his illness.

A private family funeral was held at home. Family and friends will gather on April 5 near Horseneck Beach – a place Mr. Costa loved dearly – to celebrate his remarkable life and honor the memories shared together. He will forever be missed and loved, his spirit always sailing peacefully in the hearts of those who knew him best.
