John Andrew Glutting died February 25, 2025 at the age of 89 years old at his home in Hull. Andy, as everyone knew him, was the child of Barbara Blake Glutting and Paul Roland Glutting. Born on March 12, 1935, his early years were spent in Boston and summers at Green Hill.

As the son of a rear admiral, he moved several times, including living in Shanghai as a child. He attended St. John’s Prep, St. Michael’s College, and completed his education at the University of Rhode Island.

He joined the Navy and completed flight school, becoming a helicopter pilot. He flew in Vietnam as well as a brief stint for Air America in Laos. He rejoined the Navy and retired as a commander in 1978.

An avid athlete, Mr. Glutting enjoyed tennis and ran multiple marathons, completing the Boston Marathon at the age of 60. He was particularly proud of building his own home on family land in Hull after attending the Shelter Institute in Maine.

Mr. Glutting also is survived by his niece, Elizabeth Lord Glutting, and by my many loving nephews, their children, and many cousins in the Gannon family. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Paul Glutting and Joseph Christopher Glutting, and loving sister Kate Arcand. Also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Donalda Veal Glutting, and friend and brother-in-law Richard Arcand, as well as nephews Russell Glutting and George Glutting, and niece Mary Elizabeth Taran.
