/Robert B. Smith, at 91
Robert “Rollo” B. Smith, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of 91.
Mr. Smith was the husband of the late Barbara Smith, son of the late Norman and Mildred (Wagner) Smith, and father of Stacey and Steven Sellman of Plymouth, Susan J. and Daniel Valley of Antrim, N.H., Nancy and Steven Parker of Pembroke, Amy Smith of Milton, Beth Peterson of Plymouth, and the late Robert B. Smith, Jr.
Mr. Smith was the brother of the late Jean Hunt of Bridgetown, Maine, and the late Ronald Smith of Hingham. He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Smith of Norwell, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Raised in Newton, he moved to Hingham in his younger years, and to Hull several years ago. Mr. Smith worked many years as a foreman at Hingham Municipal Light Plant and then went to work at Hull Light prior to retirement. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Smith coached Hingham softball, basketball, and coached hockey for the Hobomock Chiefs in Kingston. He was an avid runner in his younger days and ran the Boston Marathon and several Falmouth Road Races. He was an avid sports fan, especially his Patriots and Red Sox. He loved traveling across the United States. “Bobo,” as his grandchildren called him, loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
Visiting hours were held on February 17 and a funeral service on February 18, both at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel in Hingham. Burial followed at High Street Cemetery in Hingham.
