Joseph Mario Grieco, Sr., of Hull died peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was 94.
Mr. Grieco was born in Boston on September 8, 1930, and was the son of the late Peter and Nancy (Gulinello) Grieco. He graduated from Boston Latin School and went on to serve his country with pride in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He enlisted on March 19, 1952, and was honorably discharged on March 18, 1954.
Following his military service, he worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard for several years before joining the family business, Grieco Construction in Hull. Mr. Grieco worked with his brother Mario, where they spent many years building a successful business and contributing to their community.
Mr. Grieco was a man of many passions. He found joy in simple pleasures, including doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting Foxwoods casino, and spending time fishing. A lifelong Boston sports fan, he could often be found cheering on his beloved teams.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and devotion to his family will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who loved him.
Mr. Grieco was the beloved husband of the late Ann Delores (Recchia) Grieco, who died in 1995. The two married in 1955, and together they shared 40 loving years. He was the devoted father of Joseph M. Grieco Jr. and his partner, Perry Oag, of Hull, Nancy A. Stokes and her husband, Mark, of Hull, Gina M. Puleio and her husband, John, of Weymouth, and the late Peter J. Grieco, who died in 1998, and his surviving spouse Linda Arena of Whitman. Mr. Grieco was the loving grandfather of 10 and the loving great-grandfather of eight. He was the dear brother of Mario P. Grieco and his wife, Diane, of Hull, and the late Mary Lou Curtis and her surviving spouse Robert of Hull. He also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Mr. Grieco was preceded in death by his beloved partner, Dorothy Scordino, with whom he shared 10 loving years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, February 13, from 4-8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, prior to the funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church at 10 a.m.
Services will conclude with interment and military honors in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Boston.
