Richard Shawn Haley, at 66

Richard Shawn Haley passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 1, 2023. He was born May 1, 1957 to Walter J. Haley Sr. and Mary E. (Bernan) Haley.

Shawn grew up in Hull, later raising his family in Hingham. His daughters, Rebecca Jollotta and Meredith Haley, were the light of his life. Mr. Haley took pride and joy in the successes of his daughters, and through them he leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and strength. In life and in love, Mr. Haley was faithfully devoted to his wife of 31 years, Susan, who passed away in 2019 after a long and brave battle with breast cancer. He was always by her side providing unwavering support in every endeavor.

We will remember Mr. Haley’s enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, especially with knowledge gained through all his life experiences. He was a man of remarkable talent – he could build or fix anything. Mr. Haley dedicated many years of his life as a foreman mechanic for the MBTA, retiring in 2022. His loving, kind, and even-tempered personality endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Haley is survived by his daughters, Rebecca and Meredith, and their respective husbands, Derek Jollotta and Aaron Ungvarsky, as well as his grandchildren, Sophie Jollotta and George Ungvarsky.

Among his siblings, Mr. Haley was preceded in death by his brother, Walter “Chuck” Haley, Jr. He is survived by brothers Peter, Timothy, Kevin, and Mark, and his sister, Mary Ann Haskins.

Mr. Haley will be remembered for all the heart he shared with friends and family. To know him was to love him.
