Obituary: Joseph P. Baglione

Joseph P. Baglione, at 89

Joseph P. Baglione of Hull died suddenly on Feb. 9, 2023 as a result of complications following a fall. He was 89.

Mr. Baglione lived life to the fullest. He believed in hard work, as his license plate, “HRDWRK,” proclaimed. His professional life evolved gradually, beginning at the Bowdoin Color Center, a paint store, which he ran with his Uncle Phil. When he embarked on his own, he began by sanding floors and hanging wallpaper. Gradually, he accumulated the skill set needed to identify, buy, and restore distressed properties. He had the vision required for seeing the potential in a piece of property and then rehabbing it into a showpiece. Using his sense of spatial relations and design intuitiveness, he would transform the smallest studio apartment into a showcase. He later established Old Colony Associates Management Company, eventually owning and managing 200-plus units. Ownership of the apartment building at 17 Greenleaf St., Quincy, was his pride and joy.

A man of many talents, Mr. Baglione loved working on projects. He was “Mr. Fix-It” and loved to putter in his workshop repairing broken items, creating stained glass objects, and lately, making birdhouses. He enjoyed being outside. puttering in his yard, especially on his landscaping lighting; he loved the ambiance of his nighttime outside garden lights. A genuine lover of life, he was always inspired by his surroundings.

Mr. Baglione was an incredible storyteller. He could recall and describe details that brought whomever the audience was right along with him. He was easy to be with, comfortable, warm, and had an infectious laugh. He loved to cook, making soups daily, and nourished all those who were close to him. A true and faithful friend, husband, father and Nonno, who was so proud of those he loved and their accomplishments.

Mr. Baglione leaves his beloved wife, Faye; their daughter Maria Shellock, her husband Gregory and their children Hunter and Paige. Mr. Baglione was previously married to Barbara Kando Alley; they had three children: Philip, Donna, and Catherine. Philip is married to Noelle; their daughter is Abigail. Philip was previously married to June Wright Sardelli; they have two daughters, Marissa, and Sophia Almanzar, who has a son, Elian Jr. Donna is married to Kevin Haskins; Christina and Michael are their children. Catherine is married to Joe Whalen; they have a son, Shane. Mr. Baglione  also is survived by his Uncle Chuck and Aunt Viola and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham, on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. Final arrangements are private.
