Margaret Ann ‘Bitsey’ Larson, at 88

Margaret Ann Larson of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 15, 2023 at age 88. Known as “Bitsey,” Mrs. Larson was born on Nov. 5, 1934 in Cohasset to Dr. William M. Bergan and Marion Bergan. 

Mrs. Larson grew up in Hull and loved spending hours at a time sunbathing on Nantasket Beach with her sister Maureen. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1952 and got married later that year to Dominic Conte. The wedding was held at the Mayflower nightclub located on the bay just behind Paragon Park. She enjoyed many happy years living at the beach, participating in her class reunions and sharing good times with her close friends Ellie Michelson, Arlene Jeffrey, and Nancy Frazier Chambers.

Mrs. Larson spent the first 30 years of her life in Massachusetts. In 1965, she relocated to Miami, where she married her second husband, Robert Larson, in 1968. While in Miami, she enjoyed the sunshine, fun lifestyle and the company of close friends. Bitsey was even offered a job to be a model on The Jackie Gleason Show, broadcast from Miami Beach.

Mrs. Larson is survived by her son, Robert L. Larson of Miami; sister Maureen Bergan White; three grandchildren Tina Conte (Jennifer Collett), Christopher Conte (Jessica), and Anthony Conte; her great-grandchild William; nieces Jamie Barbuto, Jennifer Tichy, Meghan Sylvester, Beth White, and Catherine White; and daughters-in-law Betty Conte and Jennifer Conte.

Mrs. Larson was preceded in death by her parents, her son William O. Conte (2007), her grandson Richard Conte (2010), her sisters Kathleen Bergan (2002) and Ellen Sylvester (2018), and nephew Michael Bergan (2019), and former husbands Dominic Conte (2000) and Robert Larson (1979).

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, 208 Samoset Ave., on Monday, Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m., followed by burial at St. Paul’s in Hingham at 11 a.m.

There will be a gathering to celebrate her life at South Shore Country Club, 274 South St., at noon.
