Barbara Jean Yannizzi passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 23, 2022 in Albuquerque, N.M. She was 79 years old.
Born June 12, 1943 in Boston, she graduated from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years. She was compassionate and enjoyed caring for others, which was evident in her dedication to her nursing career, family and animals.
Mrs. Yannizzi moved to Colorado in 1980 from Weymouth to continue her work as an RN and raise her family. Upon retirement, she moved to Albuquerque, where she enjoyed the beautiful desert landscape and weather, which she had always loved. She was passionate about tending to her garden, where she pruned her roses and watched over her outdoor spaces meticulously. Mrs. Yannizzi created art throughout her life, enjoyed cross-stitch design and was an avid home decorator. She never hesitated to take in animals who needed a home, and she loved every dog and cat dearly.
Mrs. Yannizzi was a longtime contributor to charitable organizations such as Wounded Warriors and Watermelon Mountain Ranch (a no-kill animal shelter) in Albuquerque. In memory of her benevolent spirit, donations can be made to these organizations.
Mrs. Yannizzi is survived by her daughter, Cherie Marie Yannizzi, granddaughters Madeline (Rogers) Daniels and Mia Rogers, sisters Patsy (Lynch) Simon, Marilyn (Lynch) Welch, brothers James Lynch and Robert Lynch, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lynch and Mary (Garrity) Lynch, sister-in-law Honey Lynch, and nephew Michael Lynch.
Per Mrs. Yannizzi’s wishes, her ashes will be buried with her beloved grandmother, Agnes (Burke) Garrity, in West Roxbury. A celebration of life to honor her will be held at a future date in Massachusetts.
