Obituary: Mary L. (Walsh) Greene

Mary L. (Walsh) Greene, 73

Mary L. (Walsh) Greene, of Hull, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at the Residence of Penniman Hill in Hingham, with her husband by her side on Nov. 4, 2022, after a long battle with dementia.

Born in Boston on June 14, 1949, she was the daughter of the late James and Patricia (Ryan) Walsh. Mrs. Greene was raised in Dorchester, attended local schools, and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Roxbury. In addition to raising her family and caring for her grandchildren, she enjoyed working retail sales for Talbots. She loved her work and the relationships she built throughout the years.

Mrs. Greene was the beloved wife of Paul J. Greene of Hull, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of James P. Greene and his wife, Donna, of Norwell and Suzanne Darling and her husband, Kevin, of Hull. She was the loving Nana of Emma, Abigail, Sophie, and Madelyn Greene and Emilia Darling. She was the dear sister of James Walsh and his late wife, Mary, of Weymouth, Francis Walsh and his wife, Gale, of Hull, and Kathleen Richmond and her husband, Donald, of Hull.

Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Travers, Richard Walsh, and Stephen Walsh, and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friendship meant everything to Mrs. Greene. She filled her home with warmth and kindness, loved hosting Walsh family holidays, vacationing on Cape Cod and in Mexico with the Greene family, and family parties in Plymouth. Mrs. Greene was her children’s greatest advocate, teaching them the values of integrity, loyalty, and compassion, and guiding them with the confidence necessary to pursue their successful careers and their own loving families. She was overjoyed when she became a grandmother, and her favorite people called her Nana.

When Mrs. Greene wasn’t with her family, she enjoyed laughing with friends, shopping, walking the beach, and sipping tea or the occasional glass of chardonnay. She loved to travel with friends and family and especially loved their annual trip to Aruba. Mary was selfless, thoughtful, and caring, the glue that held her family together.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Nov. 10 at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Greene may be sent to Caring Hospice Services of Massachusetts, 1208a VFW Pkwy, Suite #204, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
