Obituary: Virginia Jelinek

Virginia Jelinek, at 86
Virginia “Ginger” Anne [Thompson] died peacefully, in her sleep, on Dec. 2, at the age of 86. 
Her father gave her the nickname Ginger, and no one could call her Virginia. She was born in Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., on June 6, 1931. Her parents resided in Washington, D.C., and she attended Cecilia’s Catholic School. She went to secretarial school and worked as a secretary in nongovernmental institutions in Washington for many years. 
She met James J. Jelinek on a blind date while he was attending the U.S. Naval Academy. They married on her 22nd birthday and were together for more than 64 years. 
She was the beloved wife of James Jelinek; loving mother of Thomas Jelinek and his wife, Anne, of Alabama, Julia Murray, of Hull, and the late James J. Jelinek Jr.; and the cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 
Mrs. Jelinek was the sister of Elizabeth Bratnyk of Pennsylvania and also is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, Hingham. A funeral service will be held in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, 208 Samoset Ave., Hull, on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. Interment at Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell will immediately follow. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
