Obituary: Pamela H. Schwartz

Pamela H. Schwartz, at 75

Pamela H (Pattyson) Schwartz of Plymouth passed away surrounded by her loving children on Oct. 15, 2023, at age 75. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and was the daughter of Brewster and Marie Pattyson of Cohasset.

Ms. Schwartz is survived by her children, Jesse Luke Schwartz of Plymouth, Stacey Joyce Marie Schwartz and partner Paul Noonan of Quincy. She was the former wife of James Schwartz and daughter-in-law of Joyce Schwartz of Pasadena, Maryland; sister of Laurie Hibbard and husband Harry of Hull, Stephen Pattyson and wife Charlotte Delaney of Weymouth, and John Pattyson and daughter Lena of Los Angeles;  and cousin of Brian O’Keefe and wife Liz, along with their children Sean and Sarah; and John Tim O’Keefe and husband Mark Smith. She also is survived by cousins Brian Pattyson and Kathy Pattyson Merkh.

Ms. Schwartz was an original free spirit who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She loved animals – especially cats and horses, plants, and nature, and captured them with award-winning photography. She was an avid reader and found the perfect job for several years at Borders Bookstore. She worked at Stop & Shop for many years after Borders closed its doors. Ms. Schwartz also had early careers in administration at Harvard University, Ocean Spray, and Texas Instruments. She attended Syracuse University.

One of Ms. Schwartz’s hallmarks was her infectious laugh. She brightened many rooms in her lifetime when she got into one of her classic laughing fits. We all will miss that loving and welcoming sound. Ms. Schwartz was inquisitive about all things, and through her years developed an encyclopedic knowledge of areas of interest to her: animals, flowers, and cooking. She made quick work of the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle and sudoku.

She had many artistic expressions, which included creating beautifully detailed beaded jewelry and dreamcatchers. She was an original “flower child” and had house plants as old as her children, but always had room for one more. She always maintained a vegetable and flower garden, sometimes small, sometimes ginormous, but always prolific. And of course, she loved music. Seeing Tom Rush in Plymouth on her birthday was a highlight.

Ms. Schwartz’s journey took her from Massachusetts to Maryland to Austin, Texas (where she was married and had her two children), to Tucson, Arizona, to her favorite of all, Yosemite National Park, where she worked for several years enjoying all that park offers, and finally, back to the Northeast, where she returned to Plymouth to be with family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
