Obituary: Stephen Francis Flynn
/Stephen Francis Flynn, at 68
Stephen Francis Flynn, of Hull, and formerly of W. Roxbury, died peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was 68.
Born in Boston on June 4, 1953, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Regan) Flynn. Stephen attended local schools and graduated from Boston Technical High School with the Class of 1971. After high school, Stephen enlisted in the United States Army on March 12, 1975. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on September 2, 1976. Stephen’s career was in law enforcement. He was a Lieutenant for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections Souza-Baranowski Correction Center in Shirley, Massachusetts. He retired in 2015 after 18 years of service. Following his retirement, Stephen stayed in the field of Corrections, working part time at Miller Protection. He enjoyed his work and the relationships he built throughout the years.
In his spare time, Stephen liked to complete home improvement projects around the house and spend time with his grandchildren doing things such as riding bikes, collecting rocks at the beach, and making them laugh. He was a self-taught guitarist and a member of the Saltwater Club, where he housed his former boat, “Carry On”. Stephen enjoyed keeping active with the Department of Corrections union meetings, gatherings, and retirement parties.
Stephen was a hardworking, selfless, funny, and loving person. His life lessons and example are part of his legacy that continue through his family. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Stephen was the beloved husband of the late Linda A. (Mullen) Flynn, who died in 2019. The two shared many loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Marie C. Pineo and her husband James of Bridgewater, Michelle C. Maloof and her husband Shaun of Quincy. Stephen was the loving grandfather of Brooke, Brandon, and Brett Pineo, all of Bridgewater, Logan and Lianna Maloof, both of Quincy. He was the dear brother of John Flynn and his wife Diane of W. Roxbury, Paul Flynn and his wife Maura of Franklin, William Flynn and his wife Margaret of Centerville. Stephen is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10:30 AM. Face masks are required to be worn by all guests who enter the church.
Services will conclude with interment and military honors in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.
