Virginia Bernard died on March 14 in Largo, Fla. She was 79.
Virginia was born in Middleport, N.Y., and graduated from Roy-Hart High School. She moved to Boston in 1959 and then in 1970 to Hull, where she raised her four sons.
She went to First Baptist Church in Hingham and St. Nicolas United Methodist Church in Hull. She worked at The Bargain Center in Quincy and volunteered at Wellspring Thrift Shop in Hull. She loved the beach, and she loved working outside in the yard. She was a square dancer with the Gingham Swingers in the 1970s.
In 1995, Virginia moved to Florida, where she was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Interfaith Food Pantry and president of the Suncoast Parkinsonians chapter of APDA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Bernard, and is survived by her sons: William Bernard, Thomas Bernard, James Bernard (Bridgette), and Joseph Bernard. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Hill and Janice Chapman. Other survivors are two grandsons: Audie and Frankie.
A memorial service was held at her church in Florida. A graveside service will be held at Hull Village Cemetery.
