Obituary: Maureen D. Hayes

Maureen D. Hayes, at 61
Maureen Doris Hayes of Youngtown, Ariz., died Nov. 7. She was 61.
Ms. Hayes had lived in Hull and Rochester, N.Y., before settling in Arizona. She had earned a master’s degree in social work and had long been employed at the Department of Economic Security as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
When she could no longer physically volunteer, she continued to make a difference through ongoing donations to food assistance charities, animal rescues, and transitional housing and domestic violence shelters.
Survivors include her mother, Pauline A. Hayes; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and David Gofstein; her niece, Kayla; and her cousins, cousin-in-laws, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, John Hayes.
Memorial donations may be directed to one of the charities she believed in: Valley View Community Food Assistance (www.yourfoodbank.org); Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue (www.4pawsrescue.org); or A New Leaf (www.turnanewleaf.org).
She missed the cold weather, so her family plans to take her ashes to the mountains. Her family would like to think of her enjoying the beauty, sipping a hot chocolate, and reading a great book. They miss her.
