Want to run for local office? Nomination papers will be available beginning Tuesday

Nomination papers for this spring’s annual town election will be available at the town clerk’s office beginning on Tuesday, February 18. Candidates for office must obtain the signatures of at least 50 Hull registered voters in order to qualify for the ballot in this year’s election, which is scheduled for May 19.

The last day to take out nomination papers is Thursday, March 27 at 5 p.m.

A total of 15 positions are available, including two on the select board (now held by Irwin Nesoff and Brian McCarthy), one on the board of assessors (Richard Morris), three on the school committee (three-year seats now held by David Twombly and Liliana Hedrick and a one-year unexpired term now held by Courtney Littlefield); a five-year term on the housing authority (Kathleen Bogdan) and a three-year term on the housing authority (currently vacant); two three-year terms on the board of library trustees (Alice Sloan and Rebecca Garr); two three-year terms on the light board (Daniel Ciccariello and Thomas Burns); and one five-year seat on the planning board (Jim Pitrolo). Both the town moderator (George Boylen) and town clerk (Lori West) are up for re-election as well.

At the last school committee meeting, Twombly announced that he would not seek re-election. He has served on the committee for 15 years and is the current chair.

Town Clerk Lori West recommends that potential candidates schedule an appointment to pick up the nomination papers and request checklist of upcoming deadlines and milestones in the process of running for office by emailing lwest@town.hull.ma.us or calling 781-773-3803.
