Obituary: Donna Marie Gagne

Donna Marie Gagne, 71

Donna Marie (Antoine) Gagne passed away in Hingham on Jan. 2. She was 71.

Born on Jan. 26, 1950, in Cohasset along with her triplet sisters, Debbie and Diane, Donna and her family moved from Hingham to Point Allerton Avenue in Hull when she was 5 and to a home where she would go on to spend most of her life.

In her early years, like most Hull kids, she spent her summer days enjoying the beach and going to Paragon Park. In the fall and winter, you would find her playing high school sports for the Hull Pirates.

In 1968, a U.S. Navy sailor, Joe Gagne, moved to Hull while he was stationed at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, overseeing the completion of the USS Whale, a submarine he would later serve aboard. Two years later, Donna and Joe were married at St. Ann’s Church in Hull.

Donna deeply loved Hull, her family, and many friends. She moved away only once, to her husband’s home state of Minnesota for five years, where she gave birth to her two sons, Joel and Jason, and then returned to the family home in Hull, where she would raise her own family.

Donna was a people-person, extremely hard-working and exceptionally generous. She worked for many years at A Street Liquors and also tended bar for Z Chef and Jo’s Nautical Bar.

Later in life, Donna found a new passion – taking care of the elderly, and she went on to become a certified nurse’s assistant for many years. She took loving care of all her patients and treated them like family. She would also go on to work at the Hull Senior Center.

Donna’s interests included reading, solving crossword puzzles, and collecting any type of lighthouse trinket she could find. Her favorite title was “grandmother,” and she truly loved being known as “Mimi,” just like her own mother and grandmother.

Donna is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, Joe, her sons and daughters-in-law, Joel Gagne and Meg Ansara, of Concord, and Jason and Jenna Gagne, of Hull; and her grandchildren, Tessa, Seamus, Owen, Aryana, Jack, and Julian. She also leaves her siblings, George Antoine and his wife, Jackie; Jimmy Antoine and his wife, Maddie; Diane Antoine; Debbie Clark; Regina Renshaw and her husband, Rick; Chucky Antoine and his wife, Gina; and Terri Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother Eddie.

A funeral Mass will take place on Jan. 21 at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hull Senior Center or St. Ann’s Church. See www.Keohane.com for online condolences.
