Obituary: Arthur W. Keenan
/Arthur W. Keenan, at 78
Arthur W. Keenan of Weymouth, formerly of Hull, died Dec. 28. He was 78.
Known to family and friends as Bill, Mr. Keenan started his working career at an early age on the clam flats in Hull and at Paragon Park. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was later honorably discharged, and he returned home to go on to build his own home improvement and construction company.
Mr. Keenan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his furry friend Buddy, traveling, a good joke, classic cars, and playing cribbage. He could often be found happily watching a Red Sox game or the Patriots on TV, and he also enjoyed automobile auctions and NASCAR. He was a longtime member and past exalted ruler of the Weymouth Elks.
Mr. Keenan was a man who hated long goodbyes, and, upon parting, let you know it with a quick heartfelt “Goodbye” as you were parting ways.
He was the devoted father of Arthur W. Keenan Jr., Thomas A. Keenan, John E. Keenan, and Danielle L. Rodrigue, all of Maine, and Mark T. Keenan, of Norton; adored brother-in-law of Melanie A. Rizzo, of Rockland; loving brother of Leo W. Keenan, of Quincy, James Keenan, of Weymouth, Jacqueline Minelli, of Plymouth, and the late Robert E. Keenan and Sandra E. Finch; cherished Grandpa Bill of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was known and loved as Uncle Buck by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Keenan was the longtime partner of Eloise Kelley, of Weymouth.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, 4-8 p.m., in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 809 Main St., South Weymouth. Funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, will take place at a later date.
