Obituary: Austen H. Wood

Austen H. Wood, at 79
Austen H. Wood, of Carver and formerly of Hull, died Dec. 18. He was 79.
Mr. Wood was an owner and operator of an independent news carrier franchise for many years. After selling his business, he took a position at The Patriot Ledger as a supervisor. Years later he purchased his own FedEx truck and ran his franchise for many years.
A longtime Hull resident, Mr. Wood enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing, when they made lifetime memories they cherish today. He enjoyed watching movies and loved his trips to Foxwoods with Betty, the love of his life. He also enjoyed surfing the Internet and had a favorite spot on Ebay.
The foundation of Mr. Wood’s life was his family, the cornerstone of all that was truly important to him. Although his relatives are heartbroken to lose him, they are grateful for all the blessings he brought into their lives. He will live on in their hearts forever.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years of Betty (Cledes) Wood and the loving father of Austen Wood Jr. and his wife, Jeannine, of Hull; Lisa Belyea and her husband, Charles, of Pembroke; and Lynda McBride and her husband, John, of Hull. He was the brother of Sally Gillis Wood, of Scituate, and cherished Boompa of Amanda Caulfield and her husband, Kevin, of Holbrook; Haley McBride and Austen Wood III, both of Hull; and Karli and Katelyn Belyea, both of Pembroke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A Celebration of Life service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452. See www.Keohane.com for online condolences.
