Obituary: John Schmid
John Andrew Schmid, 74, of Greenville, NH, died peacefully April 1, surrounded by his wife and children, after a long-term illness.
Mr. Schmid was raised in Poestenkill, NY, where he met the love of his life, Ruth [Coonrad] Schmid, to whom he was married for 52 years.
Mr. Schmid worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, but settled into and, in 2002, retired from a career as a journeyman mailer at The Boston Globe.
A former resident of Poestenkill and Hull, Mr. Schmid eventually made his home in Greenville, NH, where he welcomed family and friends for loving visits, delicious food, and laughter. He was also an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Greenville.
Grampa, as he was known, was a kind man who loved being in the company of others and enjoyed all things outdoors. He could often be found camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and drinking Budweiser at a picnic table.
He leaves his devoted wife, Ruth V. Schmid; a son, John M. Schmid, and his wife, Meredith, of Hull; a daughter, Christine E. Schmid, and her husband, Jack MacEachern, of Rochester, NH; granddaughter Nicole Casse and her husband, Derrick, of Rollinsford, NH; grandsons Andrew and Daniel Schmid of Hull; and great-grandchildren Isabella, John, and Don Casse of Rollinsford, NH. He also leaves his cat, Buddy. Mr. Schmid lives on in the memory of many loving friends and family across the country.
Mr. Schmid’s funeral service and burial are scheduled for Friday in Poestenkill, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Community Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
