Obituary: Paul C. Ross
/Paul C. Ross, at 94
Paul C. Ross, of Florida and formerly of Hull died after a short illness on Dec. 3. He was 94.
Born in Hingham to Wilma and Carl Ross, he was a longtime resident of Hull, having lived here for 70 years. He moved to Florida in 1995.
Mr. Ross graduated from Hingham High School in 1941. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 18, in 1943, and proudly served as a pilot during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal for piloting flights totaling more than 800 hours in India, Burma, and “over the Hump” (the Himalayas) into China. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of captain.
After the war, he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tufts University in 1952 and a master’s from Harvard University in 1955. He was a founder and past president of SEA Consultants, an engineering and architectural firm in Cambridge, from which he retired in 1986.
Mr. Ross was a 63-year member of Old Colony Masonic Lodge in Hingham and served as worshipful master in 1963. He was vice president and a member of the board of directors of the former Hull Co-operative Bank and also served as an honorary director of the former Abington Savings Bank. He served on the Hull Permanent Planning and Building Commission and the Hull Permanent Sewer Commission. He was a member and served as treasurer of the Hull Methodist Church, now St. Nicholas United Methodist Church.
As accomplished as he was, Mr. Ross will be best remembered for the love, good humor, and humility he demonstrated. He was a beloved son, husband, father, and friend and was idolized by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His was a shining example of a life well lived.
He is survived by his wife, Monika Ross; a son, Larry C. Ross and his wife, Rebecca, of Maine; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ross, of Detroit. Mr. Ross also is survived by grandchildren Jessica King of Georgia; Hannah Burdin and her husband, Dan, of Maine; Adam Ross and his wife, Elizabeth, of Detroit; and Caitlin Wahrer and her husband, Ben, of Portland, Maine; and five great- grandchildren.
Mr. Ross was predeceased by his first wife, Connie, in 1999, and by his son, Earl, in 2016.
Arrangements are under the care of Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel in Hingham. In compliance with his wishes, private services have been held.
