Obituary: William E. Twigg

William E. Twigg, at 52

William E. Twigg of Hull passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023. He was 52.

Mr. Twigg – who was known as “Billy” and also lovingly referred to as “Willy” – was born in South Boston and raised in Hull, and was the loving and extremely devoted son of William F. and Patrice J. Twigg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Jimmy, sisters Theresa, Debbie, Kathy, Chrissy, and Carol, and 18 nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He adored his family. He loved his hometown. He was often seen holding court in and around the Kenberma shopping area. Although the youngest of a very large family, he was perhaps the most notorious, known for his legendary storytelling, one-liners, and “Uncle Billy” quotable quotes!  

He enjoyed candy and pastries, and not exercising! However, he did take up golf in later years to everyone’s surprise. He dealt with struggle and adversity head-on, and endured years of fighting quiet battles. He found comfort and solace in talking with family, and his friends in various AA groups, including The Anchor.

Mr. Twigg was diagnosed and bravely fought throat cancer with an absolutely astonishing positive attitude. The endless surgeries, scans, doctor visits, and treatments never weighed him down. He was going to fight and win. Sadly, he succumbed to complications from the disease.

Mr. Twigg will be cremated with a private family gathering and a Celebration of Life will be planned in June to celebrate his birthday and allow his friends and family to gather.

Obituary: Dorothy H. Gibbs

Dorothy H. Gibbs, at 84

Dorothy H. (Lewis) Gibbs, of Hull, formerly of Marshfield, Weymouth, and Hingham, died peacefully at her home on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022. She was 84.

Mrs. Gibbs was born in Brighton on Sept. 2, 1938, and was a cherished daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Shepherd) Lewis. She was raised in Brighton and went to local schools. 

Mrs. Gibbs’s career was in healthcare as a registered nurse. She worked for Fox Hill Village retirement community in Westwood and loved being a nurse, caring for her patients, and all the relationships she built throughout the years. She retired in 2014 to spend more time with her family. 

Mrs. Gibbs’s life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continue through her family and friends. She will be missed by all the lives she touched. 

Mrs. Gibbs was the beloved wife of the late James H. Gibbs, who died in 2001. Together they shared many loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Barbara Garvin and her husband, Kevin, of Hull, Michael Gibbs and his wife, Robin, of California, Daniel Gibbs and his wife, Roberta, of North Carolina, and the late James Gibbs. She was the loving grandmother of seven and the loving great grandmother of six. Mrs. Gibbs was the dear sister of Marin Bricker and her late husband of North Carolina, and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

Visiting hours were held on Jan. 9 in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, and her funeral was held in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Hingham. Services concluded with interment in New Calvary Cemetery in Boston.

Obituary: Carol Grace Kennedy

Carol Grace Kennedy, at 76

Carol Grace (Cardoza) Kennedy passed on to God at the age 76 on Jan. 2, 2023. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Winthrop on Dec. 18, 1945 and grew up in Hanover. After her husband completed his military service, they moved to Hingham, and eventually settled in Hull.

Mrs. Kennedy was a stay-at-home, mother caring for her children, especially her son Michael, for whom she was a fierce advocate. Along with a few other parents, in 1985 she began a parent advocacy group in Hingham to ensure that children with disabilities would be allowed to participate in inclusion classrooms and be offered the same educational opportunities as typically developing children. After her son’s graduation from high school, she worked as a legal secretary for the Shapiro and Green law firm. Unfortunately, after she was diagnosed with multiple debilitating illnesses, she had to stop working, but continued to remain an advocate for people with disabilities.

Mrs. Kennedy was the daughter of the late Dr. Mathew E Cardoza II, and Grace (Cady) Cardoza.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Michael L. Kennedy, she is survived by her three children, Lisa A Kennedy of Las Vegas, Michael R. Kennedy of Hull, and Megan G. Kennedy of Hull. She was the proud grandmother of Samuel, Jeffrey, and Brenton Porter, and Bryan Kennedy. She also had one great-grandson.

A prayer service will be held for family and close friends of Mrs. Kennedy on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.; visitation hours are from 1-3 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St.,  Rockland. Following the services, there will be a gathering to celebrate Mrs. Kennedy’s life at the hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 3 Goddard Ave, Rockland. 

Obituary: Sydney Haskell Francer

Sydney Haskell Francer, at 96

Sydney Haskell Francer, known by his friends as Hecky, his family as Haskell, and his business associates as Hal, died Jan. 18, 2023 at age 96.

Born on Dec. 30, 1926 in Boston to the late Arthur and Cecelia Francer, Mr. Francer was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. 

His loving wife, Shirley (Lakin), was everything to him, and providing for his family was the most important thing in his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Sharon Francer, Laurence Francer and his husband, Jerome, and Beth Napurano and her husband, Chris. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Harrison and Benjamin Wurth. He was preceded in death by sisters Florence Boltansky and Betsey Cohen. 

A graduate of UMass-Amherst, Mr. Francer hoped to go into medicine but ended up joining the family sheet-metal business along with his two cousins. He was, however, a medic in the Navy during World War II. He was a partner in Francer Industries, Inc. for more than 75 years until it was sold in 2020. He loved music and he and Mrs. Francer were subscribers to the Boston Symphony for more than 50 years. He also played a mean piano and could play anything by ear. An avid tennis player and a member of the Cohasset Tennis Club, he played well into his 70s and often with men half his age. 

Mr. and Mrs. Francer had a large group of friends through their affiliation with Temple Beth Sholom. They would travel with them to the Catskills and Martha’s Vineyard but, mostly, he just enjoyed being on the beach with family. He loved fine restaurants, but none ever rivaled his wife’s cooking. He will be remembered as one half of the beautiful couple of Shirley and Hecky. 

Mr. Francer’s funeral service was held on Jan. 23, followed by interment at the Shepetovka Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Francer’s memory may be made to Temple Beth Sholom, 600 Nantasket Ave., Hull, MA 02045.

Obituary: Sally E. McConnell

Sally E. McConnell, 83

Sally E. McConnell, 83, devoted mother, Nana, and friend to many, died peacefully on Jan. 12, 2023, at her home in Hull, where she spent her final days surrounded by family and friends.
Ms. McConnell was born in Boston on March 17, 1939. It always gave her great joy to say she was born on St. Patrick’s Day – the “luck of the Irish” was always with her. Ms. McConnell always seemed to win at bingo, raffles, and drawings. She even won an all expense cruise to South America from WBZ radio station.
Bertram and Mary Farrell of Milton adopted Ms. McConnell at birth. Upon graduating from Milton High School, she began her career with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, where she worked for 41 years, until she retired as the supervisor of revenue operations.
Ms. McConnell was a proud supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association since the late 1960s. She fundraised and served on the MDA Boston executive board.
Ms. McConnell moved to Hull in 1999 and built a house with her son, Michael, and his family. She became actively involved with St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, served on the fundraising committee, and made many new friends in the community.
Ms. McConnell was an avid New England sports fan. Her favorite team was the Boston Bruins. She traveled extensively around the world, visiting places like Alaska, Russia, Europe, Iceland, and her favorite, cruising the Caribbean. Some of her other passions were reading, crocheting, computer games, and Jeopardy. Ms. McConnell would never let you leave her home without offering you something. She was famously known for her calzones and chocolate chip cookies. She loved conversation and had countless friends with whom she was proud of staying connected over the years.
Of all her talents and passions, her family and her extended family in Hull, whom she considered to be her own children and grandkids, meant the world to her.
Ms. McConnell was the beloved mother of Michael R. McConnell and his wife, Judy, of Hull, beloved Nana to her “favorite granddaughter,” Kayla Ahearn and her husband, Richard, of Scituate, Her “favorite grandson,” Tyler McConnell and his fiancé, Kamrie Sarnosky, of Hanson, and her “favorite great-grandson,” Keegan Ahearn, of Scituate.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, 208 Samoset Ave., a funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church. Cremation to follow.

Obituary: Lawrence A. Kellem

Lawrence A. Kellem, 90

Lawrence A. Kellem of Hull passed peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the age of 90.

Mr. Kellem was predeceased by his amazing wife of 62 years, Cynthia, and is survived by his son David Kellem (and his partner, Kristin Beane), his son Steven Kellem (and his partner, Andraea McKenney), and his daughter, Amy Slotnick (and her husband, Dan). Mr. Kellem was the grandfather of Sarah Rubin and her husband, Matt, Jordan Kellem and his wife, Katie, Matthew Kellem, Noah Kellem, Will Kellem, and Nell Asbrand. Mr. Kellem’s life was beautifully brightened by his great-grandsons, Parker Kellem and Davis Rubin.

Mr. Kellem was a renowned citizen and leader in the Town of Hull, which was his full-time hometown since the 1950s. His many civic accomplishments include leading the establishment of a permanent, full-service medical center in Hull, for which he was honored by the dedication of the facility in his name. During the Blizzard of ’78, Mr. Kellem organized the townwide response effort to establish temporary shelter for hundreds of displaced residents, and he was a key figure in the town’s recovery in the aftermath of the storm. Even though Mr. Kellem took much pride in serving as president and board member of the Hull Chamber of Commerce and as president, treasurer and board member of Temple Beth Sholom, his favorite accomplishment was managing the 1971 Hull Little League championship team, Paragon Park. To countless other civic and charitable groups, Mr. Kellem was a willing and much-sought-out advisor.

Professionally, Mr. Kellem was a respected and talented attorney. He was one of the last great small-town general practitioners, maintaining his private practice in Hull for more than 50 years. He met the legal needs of nearly everyone and in every way – from drafting simple wills to crafting zoning bylaws; from defending Hull’s sons and daughters (who may have had too much to drink) to shepherding the permitting of hotels and licensing of restaurants. He was a constant advocate and a sage influence at Hull town meetings. If you wanted something done well, and fairly, Mr. Kellem was your guy. His sons, who practiced with him for many years, and his daughter (who escaped the practice of law), lovingly referred to him as “Loophole Larry.”

Services were held at Temple Beth Sholom on Monday, Jan. 16, followed by burial at Hull Village Cemetery.

Obituary: Lorna J.E. Boduck

Lorna J.E. Boduck, 68

Lorna J. E. Boduck, age 68, of Hull passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, after a long and valiant battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Boduck was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Elizabeth A. Reedy. She also was predeceased by her husband, Stanley G. Boduck. She is survived by her brother, Robert Scott Reedy of Braintree, her beloved daughter, Shannon (Harrington) Bjorkman of Hull, and granddaughters Hannah E. Bjorkman of Cocoa, Fla., and Emma R. Kaminaga of Hull.

During her marriage, the couple enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and plays in Boston and on Broadway, boating, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Boduck never missed the annual Wellfleet OysterFest.

In recent years, Mrs. Boduck continued her lifelong Catholic faith as an active member of her parish community. She also enjoyed every moment she got to spend with her daughter and granddaughters. A graduate of Braintree High School and the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Mrs. Boduck had a successful career that included employment at the Braintree headquarters of retailers Grossman’s and Decelle, serving at the latter as senior buyer for children’s wear, and South Shore Women’s Health in Weymouth. Mrs. Boduck will be much missed by her family and friends. She was truly one of a kind.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Ann Church/St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 204 Samoset Ave., at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. Burial will follow at Hull Village Cemetery.

Obituary: Kelly Kane Devine

Kelly Kane Devine

Kelly Kane Devine passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Mrs. Devine was the beloved wife of 23 years of David Devine, the daughter of the late William and Sally (Gregg) Kane, sister of Kathleen, Bridget, and the late Donald Kane.

Mrs. Devine was born in Oneida, N.Y., and later moved to Hull with her family, graduating from Hull High School. She was a graduate of Beloit College and worked for many years at Scituate Federal Savings and Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Co. as a mortgage insurance underwriter.

Mrs. Devine enjoyed stitching at Hingham Square Needlepoint, and made many needlepoint gifts for her friends. She was also a talented cook and enjoyed lunches with her husband at Jake’s. She most especially enjoyed traveling with her husband, and they were blessed to share numerous memorable trips together. She enjoyed many years with her much-loved cats Buddy and Mac and leaves behind her puppy, Cam, who was a new light in her life. Mrs. Devine’s friendship, humor, generosity, and love will be dearly missed especially by her many friends. May the Lord bless you and keep you, Kelly.

Amy Lee Miller, at 70

Beloved Amy Lee Miller passed away on Jan. 3, 2023. She was 70 years old.

Ms. Miller was the beautiful daughter of Dave and Dorie Miller and brother of Jon of the former Eastern Hardware store in Hull.

Obituary: John O’Hare

John O’Hare, at 46

John “Matthew” O’Hare, 46, of Hull, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Jan. 2, 2023. 

Mr. O’Hare was born on July 28, 1976. He was the adored son of Terry L. (Costa) O’Hare of Hull and the late John P. O’Hare. He was the devoted father of Tyler O’Hare and his fiancée, Deasia, of Hull, Treston O’Hare of Fort Drum, N.Y., and Nathan and Morgan O’Hare of Hull. Loving Opa of Emberlee O’Hare of Hull, dear brother of James O’Hare and his wife, Tracy, of Norwell and Jason O’Hare and his wife, Jessica, of Hull. Cherished companion of Jessica Mason and her children Dylan, Ethan, Tristan, and Ana of Hull. Admired uncle of Connor, Keegan, Cullen, Braedyn, Skylar, and Declan O’Hare. Also survived by his former wife, Casey O’Hare of Hull, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

A lifelong resident of Hull, Mr. O’Hare graduated from Hull High School in 1994, and was a true “HK” on and off the football field. He was full of life and was an avid fan of the Hull Pirates, and enjoyed cheering his kids on doing what they love. Mr. O’Hare also was a passionate Boston sports fan and professional Fantasy Football smack-talker. He had a true passion and skill for the construction trade, having worked for several companies, including O’Hare Construction and Stilphen Construction. He valued family get-togethers and sing-a-longs the most. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and heart of gold. Mr. O’Hare will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Visiting hours and a Celebration of Life Service were held at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home on Jan, 10. Burial was private.

Obituary: Irwin Cohen

Irwin Cohen, at 93

Irwin Cohen of Delray Beach, Fla., and Hull, died on Dec. 25, 2022. Born on July 18, 1929, Mr. Cohen was 93 years old.

A graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Cohen practiced law in Boston for more than 50 years. He was married to his devoted wife, Gerda, for 58 years. He also leaves his children, Jay Cohen of Berkeley, Calif., and Alisa Wampler of Boca Raton, Fla., and five grandchildren.

Mr. Cohen loved summers in Hull, gardening, classical music, tennis, stamp and coin collecting, and collecting beach treasures (sea glass, rare rocks, and buoys), football, and especially the Patriots. He spoke several languages, which led to his work in Army Intelligence.

Obituary: Mark Evan Gerstl

Mark Evan Gerstl, at 72 

Mark E. Gerstl passed on Dec. 13, 2022. He was a hell of a fighter, although he couldn’t beat this battle.

He was the son of Ruth and Sam Gerstl, who raised their family in Hull.  He was the brother of Jeffrey and Paul, both deceased, as well as the brother of his little sister, Cindy, and her wife, Julie, who reside in Pasadena, Calif.

Mr. Gerstl is survived by two daughters, their spouses, and their children – Eryn Gerstl Njoroge and her husband, Dan, and two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Anna Njoroge, of Brockton, and Samantha Gerstl Lesser and her husband, Dave, and their two adorable girls, Gabby and Grace, of Lauderhill, Fla.

Mr. Gerstl also had two nephews, Brian and Robbie, and a niece, Hayley Ruth, and a great-nephew, Cody. One other love was his dog, Zoey, who loved him unconditionally. She will join the Njoroge family in Brockton with Auntie Eryn.

Mr. Gerstl lived in Florida since his late 20s, but was a true “Hullonian” his entire life, and was known by many as “Goer.” He also cheered on his Boston sports teams as a forever fan. He graduated from Hull High School in 1968 and went into the Navy with his brother Jeff during the Vietnam War.  He had so many close friends who loved him unconditionally, and whom he loved back. He was in touch with them until his dying day.  He had a life of working in a deli as the “Deli Man.” Mr. Gerstl still lived in the ’70s – when his daughters cleaned out his room, he still had 50 pairs of dungarees from the good old days.

He was cremated in Florida and will be celebrated in Hull sometime in the spring or summer.

Obituary: Kathleen Jeffrey

Kathleen Jeffrey, at 60

Kathleen “Cathi” Jeffrey, of Warwick, R.I., formerly of Hull, died suddenly at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. She was 60.

Ms. Jeffrey was born in Weymouth on Feb. 7, 1962, and was a daughter of the late Robert Warren and Mary Ann (McLaughlin) Jeffrey. She was raised in Hull and attended local schools. 

Ms. Jeffrey worked for The Patriot Ledger for 25 years and then changed careers, and entered the hospitality industry with Marriott, where she worked for eight years. Before her death, Ms. Jeffrey had been working in the automotive industry.

Though Ms. Jeffrey didn’t have children of her own, she was a proud dog mother of her Golden Retriever, Clooney. She loved Clooney more than anything, and he was her whole life. She would take him for walks, car rides, and spend the day at the beach with him regularly. Sadly, Clooney died in October of 2022, and Ms. Jeffrey was heartbroken. Her family takes solace in knowing she is reunited with Clooney today. In her spare time, Ms. Jeffrey enjoyed going to the movies and spending time at her home. 

Ms. Jeffrey was the beloved sister of Maureen T. Jeffrey of Rockland, Karen L. King and her late husband, Martin, of New Port Richey, Fla., and Denise M. Jeffrey of Braintree. She was the devoted Aunt of Ashley Kaes of Plymouth, Julianne Kaes of Middleboro, Michael Kaes of Braintree, Sean Roberts of New Port Richey, and the late Gary Roberts. Ms. Jeffrey was the devoted great aunt of MacKenna Roberts of North Carolina, Landen Roberts of North Carolina, Ayla Roberts of Florida, and William Higgins of Plymouth. She was the dear niece of Arlene Jeffrey of Hull and Susan Jeffrey of Weymouth. She also is survived by many loving extended family members and friends. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Friday, Jan. 6, from 9-9:45 a.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, prior to the funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church at 10:30 a.m.  Services will conclude with interment in Hull Village Cemetery.

Obituary: Robert Murray

Robert Murray, at 87

Robert “Muz” Murray, 87, of Hull, formerly of his beloved South Boston and Squantum, passed away on December 23, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Clark Murray. Beloved father to Susan Murray and her partner Patricia Saint James of Boston, Robert Murray and his wife Amelia of Hingham and Erin Jones of Hanover. Proud grandfather of his five stars, Robert and Jacqueline Murray and Nicholas, Sean and Patrick Jones.

Mr. Murray was a graduate of Northeastern University, School of Engineering and former Vice President of Aberthaw Construction Co.

After his love of family, came his love of the ocean, where he sailed competitively throughout his life, winning many championships, including The Lipton Cup Trophy at Squantum Yacht Club.

He was caring and selfless, his family loved him dearly. He was our CHAMPION!

A memorial mass will be held at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North St., Hingham on Thursday January 5th, at 11 a.m.

Obituary: Shawn Michael Cooper

Shawn Michael Cooper, at 65

Shawn Michael Cooper, age 64, a resident of Nantasket Beach, died after a recent illness on Dec. 18, 2022. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Barbara and Clifford Cooper of Scituate. Mr. Cooper is survived by his siblings: Maureen Gold of Marco Island, Fla., Kathryn Joseph and her husband, Bob, of Naples, Fla., and John Cooper of Hull; his niece, Emma Womack and her husband, Sam, of Cashiers, N.C., and his nephew, Darrin Gold, and his wife, Alice Liao, of Boston. He also leaves behind his longtime friend and companion of 30 years, Sandra Holt of Rockland.

Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Hull High School, where he excelled in tennis and basketball. He enjoyed high school and his many friends. He was a huge fan of all Boston sports, especially his New England Patriots. Mr. Cooper spent his career as a computer librarian for Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Boston before taking an early retirement. He had a lifetime passion for music he shared with all, including his niece and nephew. A guitar he once gifted his niece, Emma, now hangs on the wall of a music venue in New Hampshire. He loved to give music as a present, and he had the ability to choose just the right music, the right musician, for you.

In spite of dealing with the physical limitations of rheumatoid arthritis for most of his adult life, he never lost his ironic and sometimes biting sense of humor (used mostly to lampoon what he considered the idiocies of today’s political world). He was a devoted son and caretaker to his parents, enabling them to spend the later years of their lives in their own home with independence and dignity.

Mr. Cooper was an avid reader, and among his favorite authors was Hunter S. Thompson. One of Thompson’s quotes enjoyed by Shawn seemed to reflect his view on life and death: “Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Buy the ticket, take the ride.”  

Shawn, you left us way too soon; we will miss you, baby brother.

Obituary: Helen Lorraine Feist

Helen Lorraine Feist, at 74

Helen Lorraine Feist of Weymouth, formerly a longtime resident of Hull, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022. She was 74.

Mrs. Feist was born in Winthrop to Helen and William Peacock. When she was a child, she moved with her family to Hull, which she would call home for most of her life. She graduated from Hull High School and shortly after met Charles E. Feist. They started a family and were married for 55 years. She worked at Pyrotector Inc., Massa, and Weinberg’s Bakery.

However, her greatest source of pride came from caring for her family. In her spare time, Mrs. Feist loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also liked watching CSI and Law & Order while enjoying Coca Cola, an ice cream sandwich, and York Peppermint Patties. Mrs. Feist’s great sense of humor will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to have known her.

She was the beloved wife of 55 years of the late Charles E. Feist; devoted mother of Edie Foye and her husband, William, of Weymouth, Charlie Feist and his wife, Nanci, of N.Y., John Feist and his wife, Michelle, of Brockton, Chris Feist of Quincy, and Brian Feist and his wife, Tiffany, of Raynham. She was the loving sister of the late Dorothy Noddin of Hull, David Peacock of N.C., and William Peacock of Hull, and is survived by her sister, Carol Carney of Hull, and her brother, Dennis Peacock and his wife, Lois, also of Hull. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3 from 4-8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery.

Obituary: Dale Willis

Dale Willis, at 77

Dale Willis of Hull passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2022 at the age of 77. Mr. Willis was raised and educated in Hull, graduating from Hull High School in 1964. After his graduation, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country. Mr. Willis was honorably discharged and returned home to begin his working career. He worked for himself at his painting company, On Shore Painting, and ran it for many years before transitioning to driving a school bus for the town of Hingham until his formal retirement.

Mr. Willis was an active man with many talents and hobbies. He enjoyed sports, road races, and absolutely loved canoeing. In his high school years, he was the star running back and an accomplished track athlete. He was also a very artistic individual, with the ability to draw, paint, and take beautiful pictures – he even won a contest with his photography! While he was not out and about with his activities, he would enjoy sudoku puzzles and collecting antique trucks and various antique toys. Mr. Willis was a one-of-a-kind person and will be sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to have known him.

He was the loving father of Sean Willis and his wife, Robin, of Rockland, and Todd Willis and his wife, Carla, of Florida. He was the cherished grandfather of Greta, Benjamin, Taylor, and Colin. He was the brother of Diane Figueiredo of Pembroke, Wayne Willis of Bryantville, Gary Willis of Sandwich, and was predeceased by his siblings Sid Willis and Charlene “Cookie” Kapp. Mr. Willis also leaves behind his close friend and former wife, Donna Willis of Weymouth.

Pasquale V. “P.T.” Truglia of Hull, originally from Italy, died Dec. 7, 2022. 

Mr. Truglia adored his family and loved spending time with them. He enjoyed singing Elvis songs, being with friends, gardening, and growing tomatoes with his grandchildren. He was a mason by trade and a “jack of all trades” who would help anyone in need for any project. Mr. Truglia was a one-of-a-kind man who was generous, caring, easygoing, and kind. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Son of the late Giuseppe and Teresa Truglia, he was the beloved husband of Rita Truglia of Hull. Cherished father of Joseph Truglia and his wife, Davina, of Hull and Patrick Truglia and his fiancée, Felicia Rodrigues of Hull. Loving brother of Giuseppina Marcella and her husband, Domenico, of Hull, Domenico Truglia and his wife, Anna Maria, of Saugus, Michael Truglia and his wife, Anna, of Hull, Ines Truglia of Italy, Fred Truglia and his wife, Irena, of Hull, and the late Maria Truglia Corrado and her late husband, Nicola. Loving Nonno of Luka, Bianka, Sienna, Rocko, and Aria. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Obituary: Terrence J. Richardson

Terrence J. Richardson, 83

Terrence J. “Terry” Richardson, a lifelong resident of Hull, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022. He was 83.

He was born in Weymouth to Margaret (O’Hare) and Wallace Richardson and raised in Hull. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1957. Mr. Richardson started with the New England Telephone Company in 1959 as a cable splicer and rose to retire as an outside plant engineer in 1996. A devout Catholic, Mr. Richardson volunteered much of his time with St. Mary’s Parish and served as a lector, eucharistic minister, and president of the parish council. 

Mr. Richardson was a hard worker who volunteered throughout the community. He served as president of Hull Youth Hockey, was a founding member of the Hull Scholarship Fund, and a dedicated member of the Hull Boosters Club. Although he took great pride in being so involved in Hull, he was proudest of his family. He most enjoyed time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Most especially, Mr. Richardson enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their various sporting events and spoiling them with muffins, brownies, and ice cream. He also enjoyed taking long walks while reading the paper, spending time at the beach, gardening, playing cards, and doing puzzles. Mr. Richardson believed that actions speak louder than words, but never hesitated to instigate with his dry, witty sense of humor. 

Beloved husband of 60 years of Madeline (Cronin) Richardson of Hull. Devoted father of Terry Richardson and his wife, Sharon, of Hopkinton, Marybeth Richardson and her husband, Mike McPherson, of Chatham, Debra Houston and her husband, Chris, of Duxbury, Kevin Richardson and his wife, Tina, of Hull, Diane Saniuk and her late husband, Jack, of Hull, and Michael Richardson and his wife, Sue, of Hingham.

Cherished grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of one. Loving brother of Maryann Belyea and her husband, Walter, of Plymouth. Mr. Richardson was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Wallace Richardson, brother Wally Richardson and his wife, Ellen, and sister Gail Coggins. He is survived by his brother-in-law, John Coggins, and by many nieces and nephews.

Jean P. (Tucker) Johnson of Hull died Dec.12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. 

Mrs. Johnson adored her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She loved the beach, traveling to Aruba and Fort Myers, Fla., and occasional trips to the slot machines at nearby casinos. Mrs. Johnson always made room for everyone and would help anyone in a time of need. She was a caring, giving, sweet, and funny woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Beloved wife of the late Malcolm Johnson, with whom she is now reunited; loving mother of Cindy Whelan and husband Ed of Hull, Peter Bossey and wife Danielle of Scituate, Mark Bossey and wife Holly of Marshfield, Lisa Hennessey and husband Marc of Hull; stepmother of David Johnson and wife Kristin of Summerville, S.C., Kim Beaudette and husband, Steve, of Nashua, N.H., and James Johnson and wife, Jen, of Pelham, N.H.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her brothers Charlie, Bobby, Jimmy, Jerry, and Paul Tucker, and her cherished sisters Ellen Commesso, Alice Sheehan, and Theresa Basler. She was predeceased by her brothers Kevin, Ronnie, and John Tucker. Loving Nana of Joshua, Lindsey, Rebecca, Katelyn, Noah, Olivia, Andrew, Luke, Bradley, Bronson, Blaise, Michael, Matthew, Julia, Jessica, Sienna, Kyle, Austin, Hadley, Courtnie, Tedy, and Addie. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
