Donald S. Gillis, at 56
Donald S. Gillis, of Hull, died Sept. 2 at the age of 56.
Mr. Gillis served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and later became a teacher at Brockton High School. Education meant everything to him; he held a B.A. in economics from Wesleyan University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Connecticut, and a master’s in education from Bridgewater State University. He was working on his Ph.D. at Bridgewater State. He also taught an OSHA course for the state carpenters union.
He loved animals, reading, learning, politics, carpentry, and hockey. He will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, strength, and his love for his students.
He was the loving husband of Lana M. Konstantinov-Gillis of Halifax; beloved son of Donald A. Gillis and Loraine A. (Bazinet) Gillis of Hull; and brother of Dan Gillis, of Millis, Jeanne Pierce, of New Hampshire, Judy Gillis, of Quincy, and Janet Gillis, of Marshfield. Mr. Gillis is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved pets: Brooklyn, Roxanne, George, Rupert, and Erik.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, from 3-7 p.m., at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. His funeral service will take place immediately thereafter.
