Obituary: Margaret Foley
Margaret Foley, at 94
On March 27, Margaret (Austin) Foley joined her late husband, Bob, in heaven. Formerly of Rockland and Dorchester, Mrs. Foley was just six days shy of her 95th birthday at her time of death, having lived a long life of love and devotion to her creator, husband, family, and church.
She enjoyed her last few days at home in Hull, surrounded by her family, friends, and neighbors.
Born, raised, and educated in Dorchester and known as Peggy, she married Robert E. Foley in 1946. After her marriage, she worked at Boston City Hospital with her father-in-law, Dr. John A. Foley. After raising her four children, she returned to work, at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, where she spent 10 years as administrative assistant to four deans at the College of Liberal Arts.
Having been a summer visitor for decades, Mrs. Foley spent the past four active years residing in Hull with her sons, David and Michael.
Peg and Bob were proud parents, who will be lovingly remembered and forever honored by their children, Robert E. Foley Jr., and his wife, Andrea, of Scituate; Christopher D. Foley and his wife, Linda, of Enfield Conn.; Margaret F. VanCisin, of West Roxbury; and David A. Foley and his husband, Michael Loshaw, of Hull. Mrs. Foley is also survived by six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, their respective spouses, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Austin; her brothers, Lt. Daniel V. Austin (USAAC, WWII) and John Austin. She has been reunited with her devoted sisters, Eileen A. Brown and Mary (Mae) O’Loughlin. Together the sisters were commonly referred to as “the Austin Girls.” They were formidable, caring, and loving women devoted to their families, one another, and their Catholic faith.
In her later years, Mrs. Foley received devoted care from her niece, Janet A Leonardo, of Milton, keeping her entertained and busy running around. She also was assisted by devoted caregiver Marie Niland, of Hull.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Hull. Family and friends are welcome to arrive at 10:30 a.m. in the Gathering Space for a brief repose. Burial will follow, at Hull Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Mary of Assumption Parish, 208 Samoset Ave., Hull, MA 02045.
