Obituary: Paul K. McLaughlin

Paul K. McLaughlin, at 87
Longtime Hull resident Paul K. McLaughlin died Jan. 17 at age 87.
Originally from Mission Hill in Boston, Mr. McLaughlin lived in Hull for much of his life, beginning as a summer resident of Lincoln Avenue, moving there year-round as a teenager, and then settling on Sunset Point to raise his family. He worked for many years as a linesman for New England Telephone Co.
He loved to tell jokes and sing and was a part of the Whippoorwills Choral Group in Weymouth. In his spare time, he enjoyed being out on his back deck with friends, reading and enjoying the view of the water.
Mr. McLaughlin was a member of the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out), a group of friends who enjoyed getting together regularly to share memories and stay in touch with each other. He had a deep love for his family, friends, and animals and will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and sense of humor.
Mr. McLaughlin was the youngest child of the late John and Mary (O’Connell) McLaughlin. When his mother died shortly after his birth, Paul’s beloved Aunt Mae assisted in caring for him and his brothers and sisters.
He was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Curran) McLaughlin, cherished father of Michael McLaughlin, of Hull; Marty McLaughlin and his wife, Kathleen, of Weymouth; Marilyn Haraden and her husband, Christopher, of Hanover; and the late Mary McLaughlin. He was caring “Grampa” to Matthew Haraden, Adam Haraden, Sean McLaughlin, and Kathryn McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin was the brother of the late John McLaughlin, Lt. Joseph McLaughlin, Irene O’Rourke, and Marie O’Brien, and the dear friend of Joan Tilden of Weymouth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services were held earlier this week. Burial was in Hull Village Cemetery. To honor his love of animals, donations in Mr. McLaughlin’s memory may be made to Hull Seaside Animal Rescue, 487 Nantasket Ave., Hull, MA 02045.
