George B. Berg, at 79
Funeral services were held Wednesday for retired Hull teacher George B. Berg, 79, of Weymouth, who died July 28 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
A graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in Boston, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Curry College in Milton, and his master’s in education from Bridgewater State University.
Mr. Berg was the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) teacher and advisor at Hull High School for many years. He also served on the DECA Executive Committee and as a treasurer for the organization. He taught accounting at the former New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Kenmore Square.
During the early 1980s, Mr. Berg was the manager of the Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps of Greater Boston, an activity he enjoyed with his wife, who fed the corps while travelling the events circuit.
Affectionately known to his grandchildren as “Papa,”
Mr. Berg enjoyed attending their sporting events, working in his yard, and tending to his koi pond.
He was the husband of Jean M. [Camuso] Berg. The two had been married for 54 years
Mr. Berg also leaves three children: George A. Berg and his wife, Linda, of Weymouth, Anne Marie Berg of San Diego, and Christopher W. Berg and his wife, Kimberly, of Marion; a sister, Arlene Berg Hall of Medway; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Amanda, Meghan, and Gabriella. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Biagiotti and Rosemary Nash.
