Obituary: Barbara A. Whelan

Barbara A. Whelan, at 71
Barbara A. [Sapienza] Whelan, of Hull, died Dec. 10, at the age of 71. 
Her faith and her family were the focus of Mrs. Whelan’s life. She was originally from Dorchester and moved to Hull as a child, where she fell in love with the beach. She worked as a cosmetologist for Total Touch in Milton and La Mirage in Milton for 40 years. She cherished her role as a mom and grandmother and strongly valued the importance of education. 
She was the wife of the late Robert Leo Whelan, whom she met when she was 16. Loving mother of Kimberly A. Mello and her husband, Francisco, of Randolph; cherished grandmother of Melissa Mello; loving sister of Theodore Sapienza, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Weymouth; Mrs. Whelan also was the devoted aunt of Teddy Sapienza and his wife, Garrett Sapienza and his wife, and Meghan Sapienza; and ther great aunt of Wyatt Sapienza. 
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, 4-8 p.m., at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 40 Sea St., Weymouth. Her funeral Mass is scheduled for noon Saturday at St. Ann’s Church in Hull, with burial at Hull Village Cemetery.
