Police charge local man with weekend vandalism
The Hull Police Department arrested a man who turned himself into police Monday night after he allegedly vandalized several businesses and vehicles over the weekend.
Michael Haskins, 26, of Hull, is charged with 12 counts of vandalizing property. He is expected to be arraigned today in Hingham District Court.
Police were investigating the vandalism incidents that occurred late Saturday night and shortly after midnight on Sunday at several Nantasket Avenue businesses in the Kenberma shopping district, and at residences on Newport Road and Touraine Avenue. In total, there were 12 acts of vandalism with an estimated $5,000 worth of damage. Five storefront windows and doors were broken, along with damage done to seven motor vehicles.
While police were actively investigating the incidents, at approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday, a man who identified himself as Haskins turned himself in at the Hull Police Station.
His parents consented to allow investigators into their home, where police seized the clothing that Haskins is believed to have worn that night. Police said the clothes had blood on them and Haskins also had an injury and cuts on one of his hands.
On the initial call, police officers followed a trail of blood that led from one vandalized business to another.
